that plus sign after torres could be a pretty big deal, although i wouldn't think so given that two months of a top 50 prospect is already quite a lot of value.

chapman is one of the few big difference making relievers in baseball, so hopefully he doesn't beat up or shoot any women in the next three months, and we'll have an amazing bullpen for the playoffs.

I would imagine that it's just a couple token 19 year olds with live arms and no ability to find the zone. It's standard practice so the fans wouldn't feel like the deal rides on just one guy, even if it really does.

[expletive] guys. I know I'm repeating myself, but I don't think this is coming with an extension.

based on what?

1. That I'm a worrier.

2. Do extensions like this every happen at the deadline?

3. If he is willing to sign for 4/60, wouldn't the Yanks just keep him and extend him themselves?

because maybe he isn't willing to sign with the yankees 4/60, or maybe the yankees don't want to invest that kind of money in a reliever when they have andrew miller and betances, or maybe the yankees would rather have gleyber torres

I'll swallow hard and accept Torres for just 2 months of Chapman, but I hope the extension is coming.

As for off the field, I obviously have no evidence for this and maybe it's flat out wrong, but I would be a touch surprised if Theo brought in a guy like this onto a team that as far as we know appears to be full of mostly pretty good guys without knowing something we don't.

A source said the Yankees also have inquired about outfielder Eloy Jimenez, 19, who hit a three-run homer and made a spectacular catch two weeks ago at the Futures Game at San Diego. But it's not certain whether the size of the deal is tied to the Cubs securing an extension for Chapman, 28, whose contract expires after this season.

Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports first reported the Cubs and Yankees were in the final stages of a deal involving Chapman and Torres.

my issue with giving up torres (if it's only a rental) is not that we don't keep torres...it's that we don't get more than 2 months of chapman for him

but if we extend him i'm good

i seriously couldnt care less

well we should be able to get more for torres than two months + playoffs of chapman. period.

maybe so but a stud rp is what the cubs want and the seller is controlling these negotiations. id rather do this than watch him go to cleveland

Jayson Stark was just on SportsCenter and he said Steinbrenner hasn't given Cashman permission to trade Chapman yet

Hahahahahaha

That is so awesome. Yankees fans are going to flip.

Torres + seems like a huge overpay for a rental, I'm not a big fan of this at all. I really don't understand why it takes more than Torres, I think that's where they should have drew the line and even then it's an overpay. Ugg, it'll be nice to have the arm in the pen but that's quite a price to pay. I haven't read the report in his off the field issues and I won't, I care that he's probably the best reliever in the game.

as in you somehow managed to avoid knowing that story entirely?

I don't know anything other than he shot a gun.

Also tim, joe nathan is incredible and sparked the team off

I saw the results, how did the pitches look?

also, tom ricketts hasn't given theo and jed permission to trade gleyber torres.

[expletive] Aroldis Chapman.

Also, a top 30 prospect is an overpay for two months of him. But mostly, [expletive] a guy who choked his wife and fired gunshots at her.

I don't really value Torres like most do, I think he could be a solid player but there's nothing that screams "star" to me. It would suck giving him up but if Chapman is the final piece to a World Series puzzle, you make that deal.

There's no such thing as a final piece to a World Series puzzle.

I see Torres as almost entirely as a trade chip. Never pictured him playing for us really. But given his standing, he should be able to get us more than a rental on a (an insanely good one) reliever.

If Theo does this without an extension, does that mean he doesn't buy the theory that the playoffs are a total crapshoot or that he doesn't want to assume we are in the playoffs?

What would be his motivation?

Of course he believes it. He's been talking since day one about the only way to win a world series being to make the playoffs consistently.

what? he's probably assuming that arrieta and lester are hitting their decline phase so this may be our best shot at the next few years and that strong RP is our biggest weakness
