Mike Montgomery seems a mediocre return for Voglebach, his numbers aren't spectacular.

For everyone that realizes that Vogelbach is a fat DH who has only shown power once he got to the Pacific Coast League, a big, youngish lefty arm that was once one of the top pitching prospects in baseball, that can flip back and forth from the pen and start maybe, with tons of years of control left... it's a nice return.

I would gamble there is a very significant chance he's tried out as a starter to start 2017.

So, to get this straight, the Cubs have added Matusz and Montgomery so far this season and it has (maybe) only cost them Vogelbach to do so?

Yeah, I like our front office.

I would hope that would be our intent, given that we chose to trade for him. Obviously, they like something about him. The pen is always a fall back, too, though. And that's fine, too. If he were able to start for us, then this is a home run. If it's not, then, oh well, as long as he is a solid long-term pen option, we made out alright.

But, yeah, it seems like what was mentioned in that Fangraphs piece. He's a guy to help the pen this year, but has control and starting aspirations in the future.

AND YES I ROUNDED FROM 96.9 [expletive] OFF

I don't see a 96.9 on that list. How many times did you have to round to get to that figure? I think your rounding routine might be broken.

Honestly I'd be surprised if one of Montgomery/matusz didn't have Hammel's gig next year and the Cubs took the 10M saved and spent it elsewhere. I'd have preferred Paxton, but I'm sure the price was much higher.

Psssh, fangraphs is so 2014. Now it's about manually parsing through data. Get with the times, man.
