I'm too lazy to dig up the link, but SABR has some good stuff about what they call "Golden Pitches." A pitch that has the potential to end in either team winning the World Series.

 

They don't have pitch data for a couple of the early ones, but before last night they believe it has happened 7 times for a total of about 40. Mike Montgomery added two to that total last night.

Wow, just reading the term "golden pitches" and thinking about the fact that either team could have won is giving me the chills.

Fun fact: with the WPA accrued in game 7, along with the WPA Chapman lost in game 7, Montgomery actually was worth more than Chapman as a Cub this season, going by net WPA.

Hammel is in the rotation for now. Hell, Montgomery would have an innings limit anyway at this point. Use the heck out of first half Hammel and put Monty in a long-relief role. Then trade Hammel at the deadline for the best AA/AAA pitching prospect you can get and slide Monty into the rotation for the second half / playoffs.

I really don't think we should expect a mid-season Hammel trade. Definitely not for prospects.
