You know when we were bragging about how much depth we had in March, particularly in the OF, so much so that we had no choice but to trade Coghlan, i really didn't expect us to be trading for an OF in mid June

This is hilarious/awesome. Now bring Starlin back.

plz no

i can only stomach so many trades for replacement level players

(i wanted to say sub for this to make more sense but starlin got himself back over in the past few days)

Coghlan seemed pretty devastated when we traded him. Hopefully this lights a fire under him and he bounces back.

That's what I was thinking. Going from the best team in the league to the last place A's has to suck.

Does this mean the Great Chris Coghlan Infielder Experiment is going to resume? That wasn't particularly pretty last time around.

It gave you an absurdly good offense when you also got Schwarber behind the plate though.

Whats up with all these hamstring pulls? Can we get Rusty Jones here?

I was at a game in '14 where Alcantara had a HR in an awesome comeback against the Dodgers. So this kind of sucks.

But Coghlan had 2 HR that game...so good move.

He has been truly awful this year but I don't mind the move I guess if they think coming back to a place he was comfortable will get him going. They have been playing him at 2B and 3B some this year I know.

It's a good move. It doesn't block a potential blockbuster add if they want to go that route, or it allows Maddon to juggle/matchup Soler, Coghlan, Scissors, Almora Jr. and Bryant out there depending on who is available/hot with a bat.

I just realized with La Stella on the DL we're finally gonna get Bryant at 3b as a regular thing

Which is good

Javy says no bueno

I'd prefer Bryant there and for him to stick there, but I'll take Javy playing there

Anyone that can actually, you know, field the position

I'm a big Coghlan fan. And also in the "Soler injury must be bad" camp.

Consider me astonished that you are in this camp.

like with Brett Jackson, it really baffles me when players are at first good but then get markedly worse in their 2nd go-around at AAA

Javy's a better prospect. :)

same...it's hard to say with any certainty but i guess it's just a confidence thing after the way those guys got worked in the big leagues. just couldn't find it again? or worked on adjustments to improve their chances at success in the bigs and the adjustments don't take/make them worse, i guess.

Yeah, I'm guessing it's more the latter than the former. But both play roles, I'm sure when they fail they are told what they have to fix/work on and they just aren't capable of making those fixes. Just flawed players doing what flawed players do, end up failing.

Is there any reason at all to think that Coghlan will regain last year's form?

Other than him wearing the Cubs' uni again? Dunno.
