Roark can call it scared baseball, I'll call it winning baseball. Anyways he was kicked out of college for academic reasons as an athlete... so he has to be a complete idiot.

Meh, he's frustrated after four rough losses and learning that his team isn't as good as everybody thought they were. Even he probably realizes that it was a dumb thing to say. I'm just glad he opened the door for that Zimmerman slam by Law, reading that improved my night.

If Zimmerman had gotten a couple hits in the first two games, the Cubs might have pitched to Harper a bit more.

As it stands, he went 2-19 in the series.

A couple observations:

How crappy must Zimmerman feel? I think he had 14 LOB today, and the Cubs were essentially daring him to do anything with the bat. I don't drink, but if I were him I would have gotten wasted on the flight back to DC.

Batting two sub .300 OBP guys (revere has only played in a few games, given) in front of Harper when you have Daniel Murphy sitting at .448 is totally Dusty. If you're not going to put him in front of Harper, at least put him behind him (lol Zimmerman). Baker is a damned prodigy at botching lineup construction.

Before Revere, he had Micheal Taylor (he of the .222 OBP) batting leadoff. That really takes me back to the days of CPatt/Macias/Neifi batting ahead of Derrek Lee, which still fills me with a terrible rage.

The crazy thing about the Nats needing protection after Harper, is that they arguably have it. I'd have been much more concerned with Murphy batting after Harper.

Or even Wilson Ramos (who has been hitting well), since Dusty is apparently locked in to not bunching up LH hitters.

I bet Roark is too much of a [expletive] to throw it underhand to Rizzo next time he faces him.

Ryan Zimmerman left 14 men on base Sunday all by himself. Had lots of folks asking me if this was a record. Luckily, Retrosheet founder Dave Smith looked into it! Found 3 others in the last 60 years who left 14 on -- all in extra inning games. Zimmerman did it in 13 innings. The Orioles' Gus Triandos needed 15 innings to do it on July 3, 1958. The last NL player to leave 14 on, Ron Cey, stretched it out over 19 innings on May 24, 1973. And the only other active player on the list, Jose Bautista, stranded 14 in a 19-inning game on Aug. 10, 2014. There ya go.

While I hate that he's out for the season, I love that he's lurking as this unavoidable, TERRIFYING threat for the rest of baseball next year. Like, "oh, you thought they were good BEFORE?" Edited by Sammy Sofa

This is where I am at. I am really missing all of his SuperDongs. But the wait is much more palatable knowing he is lurking. We are already a terrifying menace. And this big, beautiful dongsmith is just chilling on ice.

Have they laid out any sort of plan/milestones for him? Like when he could/should start running or riding a bike, hitting balls of a tee, etc? Obviously it's major surgery so I'm guessing that's months away yet. Also would it be out of the question for him to play winter ball this year, if health permits?

I feel sad feelings that he can't contribute to a World Series run this year.

I think they should just put him on the playoff rosters and let him be Kirk Gibson c.1988

This makes me sad because it reminds me of the end of The Sandlot where they are being faded out while playing.

If Schwarber can bounce like that right now he can just DH for us in AL Parks and pinch hit right now!

I know its extremely doubtful but I'd love him somehow to make it on the playoff roster. Wasn't Adrian Peterson playing in the NFL 7 months after his torn ACL and dominating?

Yes but the Cubs are not going to risk rushing back a 23 year old, make him play OF (or catcher) 7 months after tearing his ACL and UCL for a team that is likely to win over 100 games without him. Even if he just PH's, it would be completely unlike the Cubs FO to gamble like that.

Plus baseball hitters typically need to get ABs and swings in to get their timing back and get in a rhythm. Bringing back a cold Schwarber into a playoff game would be a huge risk.
