Maybe give us a little something-something in a spoiler tag, you bastards.

“Unfortunately, sometimes that puts a player or two that we have in a real tough circumstance. It’s my job to clarify: There’s nothing going on right now. We have more than enough ability to win the division, win the World Series. We really need to focus on our roster and getting the most out of our ability and finding some consistency.

“The constant focus outside the organization doesn’t do us any good, especially when it’s not based in reality right now.”

“Everyone’s talking about making trades in May,” Epstein said. “The first part of the season is trying to figure out who you are. What are the strengths of the club? What are the weaknesses of the club? What’s the character of the club? What position is the club going to be in as we get deeper in the season? What’s our short-term outlook? What’s our long-term outlook? What’s the chemistry in the clubhouse? All those things. It’s a process to get there and figure it out.

“If you rush to those kind of judgments, you can oftentimes make things worse. I think it’s important to figure out exactly who you are and give guys a chance to play and find their level and see how all the pieces fit together before you make your adjustments.”

Their Pythagorean record is 31-17. I am very confident in this team, but damn, it would be nice to go on a 15-5, twenty game stretch. I think they have to get another starter (or 2, if Darvish is dead).

The W-L record isn't in line w/ the talent on the roster, but neither is the excitement of play on the field. As much as I'm surprised that the VB have one of the best records in baseball at this point of the season, I'm equally dismayed by how often this Cubs team is boring as horsefeathers to watch. I know...baseball, but damn, at least entertain me more often, even in losing.

Between Darvish being injured and lousy all year, Quintana being mediocre and inconsistent, and Chatworth being unbelievably lucky so far, it's going to be hard going on an extended win streak. Hoping that our inconsistent offense and a great bullpen will carry us is hard to imagine.

With some people on base.

Is Eddie Butler just dead? I know it's not like he's integral to the team but he had good outings earlier and I'd rather see him get another shot before Luke Farrell. Shouldn't he be back from the DL?

I’ve heard nothing on Butler and it was only like a groin thing. If Darvish is dead he becomes at least a little important as the long guy/swing man out of the bullpen.

I was looking for something on the Wikipedia page for postseason records today and how awesome was it to see the Cubs on there for a good thing? They've got the current longest active streak of seasons with at least one playoff series won.

horsefeathers the majority of the Chicago media guys because they are responsible for pushing their garbage that makes the fans have this sentiment

I honestly think the Chicago media environment was ONE of many, many factors that lead to the drought being as long as it was.

I agree. Maybe every big market has it but there really seems to be just a lot of awful media guys around the Cubs right now. Not only are they just bad at their jobs in general, but they push careless stories that carry ridiculous and sometimes harmful narratives to a lot of “fans” who are idiots themselves but also trust these guys to tell them how to think about certain issues and players. Especially the ones that are at the “established,” big name outlets.

I don't see how that's different than every other sports market. Horrible local sports media is inescapable.

I guess. Just seems like the lack of mental fortitude, gutless choking dog, big softy, Yu articles are everywhere by these idiots which seems a bit over the line to me to be pushing such nonsense narratives. And these guys were building in that stuff to their stories from spring for the “fans” who read them to jump all over him the first sign of trouble.

at the very least it's the same in the major east coast markets.

That's exactly what the DC area is inundated with here, too. It's everywhere.

This seems kind of strange. Maybe I’ve been out of the loop but I don’t remember anyone making fun of him for going on the DL with the flu or for going on the DL 2 times in general.

And despite some groaning about his iffy start I haven’t felt like there has been an abundance of hate for Yu at alll.
