I’m sure he’ll land on his feet someplace where character (or lack there of) isn’t an issue. Are the Astros in the market for a middle infielder?

Yeah but unfortunately for Addison, the Astros only want bad character guys who are actually good at baseball.

Can we get the people that do those deep fake videos to edit Javy over him for the home runs in Dodger Stadium in the NLCS and the World Series Game 6 hits and we can forget he ever existed?

I don't know why Theo felt the need to make such a lengthy statement over non-tendering Addison Russell...

Because they've managed to botch this at every possible turn, so why stop now?

I’m so glad the Cubs management decided to give this piece of garbage an extra year of to suck and malign the fan base.

2019 was so much like 2009-2010 it’s crazy

Cubs fans still tripping over themselves to defend this guy, even as he’s shown the door

The Venn diagram of fans who defend Russell but hate Kaepernick must be close to a single circle

I'm on a University of Illinois message board - cleverly disguising myself by using the exact same user name - and there's one guy who is talking about how great it is that Kendrick Nunn (former U of I basketball player, kicked off the team after pleading guilty to domestic battery) is getting a shot in the NBA, while simultaneously saying in a different thread that Kaepernick should never be in the NFL again.

Sample size of one I know, but those people are out there.

Unless I am mistaken, Derwood is saying ALL Nunn/Addi supporters are also Kaep haters. I claim there are too many straight-ticket racists for that to be true.

I could see the Royals signing Addison Russell. Their starting SS (Adalberto Mondesi) had shoulder surgery and might not be ready by the start of next season. They love to sign/trade for former Cubs players and their GM has some questionable views on character/makeup/managerial hires. Dayton Moore really wanted to draft Luke Heimlich when no team wanted anything to do with him.

I could totally see Addison going there and baby mama #4 happening at some point...

Seeing him get non-tendered has genuinely lifted some sort of weight off my Cubs fan shoulders. Like we made it through some sort of natural disaster and even though we didn't come out unscathed, the fact that the disaster is over feels like a new day.

team-friendly extensions for productive young players are almost always a no-brainer

i mean fans didn't know he was a wife-beater and his shoulder would fall apart

Nah, they're incredibly overrated.

On average, fans especially but even teams fall victim to optimism bias when projecting out young players. Athletes fall apart at a way higher rate than we are comfortable baking into our projections. Having them under non-guaranteed team control >>>> owing them guaranteed deals.

When have they really blown up on teams outside of like the Votto/Giancarlo massive ones? The ones more in the Rizzo, Yelich, Suarez, Quintana, Trout’s first one range and Bogaerts, Albies and Acuna ones just started all seem to have worked out/are working out. I’m trying to think of other ones and really can’t. And a lot of those you aren’t talking that much guaranteed money at risk of blowing up.

Starlin Castro?

He signed a 7/60 extension in 2012. 2013-2019 he was worth 10.9 WAR, not great but only cost $8.5 per year and he also had a 3.2, 2.3 and 1.9 win years. So you got a few decent years.

I know — not a disaster but you could have paid him a lot less. For the record I’m not opposed to extensions.
