IIRC the average CF OPS last year was .719. RF was closer to .750 and LF closer to .730. Might be off, too lazy to check but for some reason posting anyway.

According to Fangraphs, the top 30 CF averaged a .747 OPS (minimum 400 AB). If you go with only qualified batters then the 23 who qualified average .765.

Yeah turns out the ML average was .743, a teeny tiny bit higher than LF actually.

Where did you get the average? Been looking and ended up just having to filter to qualified CF and do the math myself which isn't the exact number.

Guys like Trout and McCutchen have bumped CF up recently.

Basically just click on the league tag.

Thanks.

FYI .734 not .743

Add in the fact that CF offer more in baseruns and defensive value, and you have something very interesting.

The more interesting analysis is probably the median for each position.

Side note: In Muscat's article I linked earlier, with the news that Baez will be the backup first baseman, I predict that Javy will appear at every position on the diamond except catcher this year (well and of course I doubt he pitches) Edited by weis21

With all of our depth I kind of hope we screw with the Cardinals the first game and go like:

Kawasaki 2B (called up only for this game)

Zobrist SS

Bryant CF

Schwarber C

Soler RF

Baez 1B

Russell 3B

Lackey P

Heyward LF (OPS'ing .900 but batting 9th just because we can)
