Going to spring training in 10 days. Unfortunately the Cubs are only home for one of the 3 days we are there. What's the day like on gamedays? Specifically when they're on the road. Do they work out at Sloan in the morning then bus over for the game? Do the players playing that day bus over while the rest of the team works out at Sloan?

you know the "away" games are probably like 20 minutes away from the home games right?

About 40 minutes to Peoria and almost an hour to Surprise, but yes.

this is already my favorite cubs team ever

I saw multiple Blue Jay fans say they were more upset losing him, than losing Price. I wouldn't go that far, but we're good enough to give him the Herrera role. I want him on the team.

If ever there were a picture to capture my feelings about people constantly buried in their smart phones, that is it.

It's a kid. If he's not distracted by a smart phone he could be distracted by a mascot or dot race on the scoreboard. There's no shortage of things to distract at a sporting event.

At least that is happening in real life. You know, his surroundings?

Meh, I'm glad I haven't reproduced.

If he gets hit by a bat I doubt his parents would take any solace in "well at least he was distracted by something other than a phone."

C'mon. I wasn't making anything close to that point.

OK, then lets at least acknowledge that smart phones aren't going anywhere. People being distracted at sporting events isn't getting less common, it's getting more common. People can shout at the sky all they want about horrible technology is, but it's here for good. Which only increases the need for more netting and protection for people that are sitting close enough for bats to sail into the stands and hit them, or their kids.

If the kid wasn't messing with a phone he likely would have been focused on eating something, or messing with his hat, of if they had free giveaway, or if someone had bought him from the shop, etc., etc.. I'm with you in that kids aren't going to be typically laser-focused on the game and it's silly to blame this on the phone like otherwise he was almost certainly going to be watching the game at that moment. Even though this was an entire bat, just how the bats most players prefer tend to break a LOT more now than they did in decade's past is probably the best argument for more protection being extended down the stands.
