(it's from arguello's site)

I hope he and the bearded pitchers encourage the others to step up their beard game.

But mostly I just want to see Rizzo try to grow one.

heyward has, in fact, been working on stuff with mallee

Position players don't need to report to Arizona until Feb. 23, but Jason Heyward and hitting coach John Mallee are already busy at the Cubs' facility getting to know each other.

While the clubhouse staff sorted deliveries of shoes and equipment and some pitchers got a head start at the Cubs' facility, Heyward and Mallee talked hitting and what the outfielder needs to be successful.

"We need that time without distractions so we can watch film together, he can tell me what he likes to do, he can tell me what his strengths are, what he thinks his weaknesses [are]," Mallee said of their first session together on Wednesday. "Over time, seeing him play all these games this spring, I'll be able to help him if he needs any help."

It’s worth reminding folks that Heyward, who is still just 26, posted a 121 wRC+ last year despite an absolutely enormous 57.2% groundball rate. For years, folks have dreamed on the offensive potential in that body, which has gone somewhat untapped because of Heyward’s unique swing. With just a touch more elevation, there’s no reason to believe Heyward couldn’t explode offensively.

But, even if he doesn’t, I’ll say it again: despite all the ground balls last year, Heyward was a .293/.359/.439 hitter, and that would look mighty nice near the top of the Cubs’ prodigious lineup.

Going to my first spring training this year. Only going to be there 3 days though, before heading to Vegas for March Madness. What is there to do there, other than attend the games?

At first I thought people were reading way too much into "swing changes" from some lazy BP session, but I guess his other BP sessions from other teams do look more normal. Still not convinced they are going to change things as dramatically as that video looks, but I guess now is the time to try things out.

between the older clips, comments from the FO about tapping into more of his power, and the pics of what mallee specifically seems to be working on with him, it seems like a pretty decent bet.

My my those comments on that Youtube video.

If you get past the racial slurs, the comment that stood out to me was, "he's not even a good hitter. I'll take my chances with Piscotty".

I particularly liked the guy who said "I still can't see how a guy that big and strong couldn't have more than 60 RBI's" and the guy who followed it up with "Clutch can't be improved by lifting weights. See Joe Montana. Heyward was a palm to the face most of the season, and the softest 290 in history."

Followed swiftly by a racist comment.

I like the one dude acting all incredulous at being called a racist after, like, half a dozen posts of him calling someone a "[expletive]" and all kinds of ugly jokes about Hispanics.

Hahahahah! It's the guy I just posted about. That's a special kind of disconnect.

Hard to believe that fanbase is still going 100% scorned ex-girlfriend over a ".290 hitter". Missouri really is the worst.
