the Rangers are 20 games over 500 with a -2 RD

They're an insane 27-8 in one run games.

It means nothing but imagine if we had that kind of fortune right now and what our record would be

Interestingly, that's exactly what BP's 2nd order Wins has us at (what our runs scored/allowed "should" be given our underlying stats)

Is there another free site besides FanGraphs that has team stats like BB% and Contact %? There was a question asked by someone in a FG chat asking how teams with high BB% and low Contact % perform against better pitching in the postseason, and I was trying to put that together on my own but they don't have splits for only postseason statistics (that I can see).

FWIW I used a BB% over 9% and Contact % under 79% as my parameters. The Cubs (10.4% and 76.8%) would be outliers in both but there are really no teams over the last 8 years that have a walk rate that high with a contact level that low that make the playoffs. If anyone cares, the teams that qualify for this are:

2015 Cubs (9.1%, 74.7%)

2015 Dodgers (9.2%, 78.0%)

2013 Reds (9.3%, 78.1%)

2012 Braves (9.3%, 78.0%)

2010 Rays (10.7%, 78.7%)

2009 Rockies (10.6%, 78.5%)

When was the last time a team so outperformed their pythagorean that dramatically? I remember the...2007? Diamondbacks did something silly like that?

Yeah they won 90 games despite being outscored for the season. Then kicked our ass in the playoffs to boot.

Yeah I remember we were all like 'LOL look at that run differential, we are going to clown these fools in the playof- what the hell we just got swept'

2003 was painful for obvious reasons, but I think 2007 was a little more soul-crushing, personally.

I still can't get over the fact that Lou pulled Z after 6 innings (I think 85 pitches) in a tie game in Game 1 because he wanted him sharp for game 5. He was pitching great and you win the game you are playing in first. And it doesnt help that Marmol immediately gave up a HR to the first batter he faced to break the tie.

I still think that was the right move. He actually pulled him early so that he could bring him back on 3 days rest in game 4. The Cubs had a good back end of the bullpen, and the Cubs really didn't have a 4th starter by that point. Marshall I believe was at his innings limit by that point, Marquis had a 5.73 ERA in the second half of the year, and Trachsel had just been terrible. 1 inning of Zambrano even in a big leverage spot was not worth having Marquis pitch vs having Lilly pitch a second time in the series. Obviously it ended up working out the worst way possible.

08 was easily more painful than 07, especially coming off of 07.

Yeah, 2007 was more of a pleasant surprise than anything else; 2008 felt like they were just going to steamroll through and I spent the weeks before the playoffs raging at people acting like the Cubs were doomed. I was more mad at the team than anything else for vindicating those dumb, terrified meatballs.

not only did that team not win a game after steamrolling through the regular season, but they barely even showed a pulse at any point. game 1 for a little bit and that was it.
