ohtani has been completely insane so far, the angels are relevant, and it still feels like he's already been forgotten

I almost went to one of their games last weekend but I drove by the stadium and got bored

Maybe it's just Deadspin, but they basically have an article fawning over him every week.

Yeah, goodness. It's impossible to avoid coverage of Ohtani.

Can a team create a pitching staff of 12 middle relief/1 long relief combined with a AAA staff of options to burn?

Day 1:

Pitchers 1,2,3 with a long relief available that could be optioned the next day if need be.

Each averages 50 pitches.

Day 2: 4,5,6 with long relief available.

Pitcher 4 goes 4IP, pitcher 5 only goes 2/3rds, long relief (pitcher 13) gets called in to finish 1 1/3 but throws 35+. Pitcher 6 throws 3IP at approximately 45 pitches.

After the game pitcher 13 is optioned to AAA.

Use the top 9 pitchers for the top 3 days assuming you can pitch them consistently on 3 days rest and skip the 10/11/12 spot when there is an off day?

This is a bit of a hybrid of the 8 man rotation and what Tampa is doing every 5th day.

If I'm a small market team rebuilding and I have some value with my current SP that I would be better off trading, I would consider it throughout the organization.

If you're the Cubs, would they be better averaging 10 mil per on 10 pitchers with 5+ mil per on pitchers 11 and 12 to get to the 110 mil they're approximately spending in 2018? (Or allocate 8 mil per and utilize the rest towards offense)

I know there will never be a team that would go to the extreme but it would be fun to watch.

Idiotic brainstorming from me.

Even taking managers desire for the their toys out of the equation, i don’t think it’s workable. What happens when pitchers #7 and 8 have breakout years and 3 and 4 suck? If one of them them turns into an Andrew Miller type do you want to limit him to pitching every 3-4 games rather than in High leverage?

If I’m going extreme experiment I’m going 4 game rotation of 2 pitchers hoping for 3 innings apiece flexing them to 4 if they’re efficient, 3 short relievers, a LOOGY, and a swingman shuttle

I was gonna say he's doing it in solidarity with the Cubs' assiness, but striking out is one of the few bad things they don't do! 25th out of 30, hot damn.

*Meaningless Kurkijan stat alert*

Bryce Harper has struck out 11 times in his last 4 games, worst stretch of his career.

He'll have a much worse stretch as a cub

Lou Piniella is doing ads out here for a retirement community conglomerate called SHAG. two things:

1) Retirement communities are notoriously sex-ridden cesspools. So much so that STD education has become part of their service packages. So SHAG indeed.

2) Lou looks like he's lost a few inches in height. I'ts weird seeing him as some old gradpappy type.

Mike Trout is on pace for 14.7 bWAR (Ruth’s 14.1 is the only position player season of more than 13) and 13.2 fWAR (only Ruth got to more than 13).

arrieta trashed the hell out of his team

I like how the starts off by bashing Kingery for not making a better play at shortstop but then glosses over the 3 straight hits he gave up that happened next and then discounts McCutcheon's homer off of him as some kind of pop-up that fluked its way over the fence or something.

I dont know why this is so interesting but it could be relevant for the Cubs/VB's in the coming weeks

I noticed that yesterday morning and screenshotted the standings and sent to a buddy because I thought it looked so weird. Definitely an oddity I'd never even thought about being a possibility.
