All the protagonists are always normal at the *beginning* of a cult movie

Come on don't be ridicu---

*Puts finger to earpiece*

Apparently the Rockies are signing Paul Goldschmidt and Andre McCutchen to 9 figure deals because they were still superstars last time Paul Depodesta warched a baseball game?

Is that really all it took to get Harry Ford

I do wonder if this is an "MLB teams don't like Harry Ford as much as prospect rankings" do, because Seattle had to add another player in to Ford to get Ferrar. In Ferrar's defense, he was worth 1.4 fWAR last year, so he's pretty good but yeah, doesn't feel like Harry Ford had the value many suspected he did?

I know AAA is either the dead ball era or mid 1990s Coors Field depending on where you’re playing, but 16 HRs in 460 PAs, a 16% walk rate and sub 20% K rate, and an .860 OPS with an over 400 OBP as a 22 YO trying AAA for the first time doesn’t seem too fake?

And he’s been consistent all the way through. I can buy into teams not valuing him as much as the rankings, but this combined with Password (Who imo is probably a tier below Cassie but not far off and almost identical first year production in AAA) being traded for a SP who you have to start off the conversation by saying “well he’s got some things to work with, extension, fastball, etc”, just doesn’t give me the warm fuzzies that our prospects are going to be able to bring back the haul we are hoping for.

what's delgado's issue?

in my mind, jeff kent's baseball career is overshadowed by his stint on survivor and his final words is an all-timer:

survivor legend jeff kent is now a hall of famer.

None of them needed to take PED’s. They were all HOF’ers before cheating and they all wanted a leg up on the competition as if their talent wasn’t enough. I have absolutely no sympathy for any of the greats not in the HOF because of cheating.

Kent going into the HOF before Bonds is such a petty trolljob by the voters.

The Hall Of Fame Welcomes Jeff Kent And Not That Other Guy | Defector

Dude goes from being a good player to being HOF-worthy (I guess) only after joining the Giants at 29: either he was using, too, or he only put up those numbers expressly because he was in the lineup with Bonds (probably both, IMO).

Court of public opinion. The voters probably just like him more. But yes, he shouldn’t be in either after failing a drug test.

He was probably using.  Pretty sure Jim Thome was using, the guy was massive and didn't start out that way.  There's a lot of users that will get in because they just were never linked to PEDs.

The whole era was an unfortunate joke.  I can remember how often guys hit opposite field HR, and that just doesn't happen too often these days.  And guys now are ripped, they just don't have that bulk.

I never felt that way about Thome. At 23 years old he hit 20 homers in 321 AB. He was probably leaner, but guys to naturally bulk up too, as they age. I don’t recall him ever being mentioned as a possible user. I think he was just a big guy who hit a lot of homers. But I guess I could be wrong🤷

So......Joey Gallo is going to try to pitch. Sure, why not.

He is a beast in my 2022 MLB The Show universe in the year 2028.

I've never liked Bonds. In fact, I'm one of those dudes who hates anyone who cheats in any way, shape, or form. But do I condone the idea that cheating immediately warrants automatic Exclusion from the HOF? Not necessarily, and probably not.

The thing is that Kent has only been elevated not because of himself, but because of someone else. HOF is ultimately not a game of individualism, but of reflection based on others. In fact, he is the principal reason why mediocre guys get elected--which only makes the situation even worse.

It's Bonds that got him elected, of course. And in governmental elections, the same thing occurs--it is often more important to not elect someone you detest than to elect someone you mildly dislike. The meritocracy of the HOF is pretty much done. I applaud its commitment to integrity, but detest the expense of quality that this brings.

Whatever, bro.
