I wonder if he gets paid in US dollars.  The exchange rate would make it far more expensive for the Jays.

Fantastic hitter.  Hopefully he keeps managing the weight well.  If I were the Jays i'd put that into the contract since big guys tend to break down when they age.  Playing 1B should save his joints a bit, but not sure about that turf.  Obviously better than the old turf.

If Vlad Jr is worth $35M a year, for 14 years, what's Tucker worth?

35m x 12 years = 420m

yeah it feels like the vlad deal moves us closer to "with no progress being made on a tucker extension, the cubs are testing his trade market" headlines

I'm waffling back and forth on the Tucker impact.  On one hand, an out of shape DH who hasn't had consecutive great seasons getting 35M AAV until the heat death of the universe is not *good* news for the Cubs keeping him.  But on the other hand, it didn't necessarily set a new benchmark that was previously thought to be beyond Tucker's reach.  He was always gonna get a greater AAV, and the specific amount above that is a bit more squishy.  Maybe he'll push harder for 12/510 or something, but the length is always gonna be the hard part to get agreement on so the Vlad news may not make a huge difference on that axis.

It's always the length with Jed/Tommy Boy. They never want to pay the downside and only want to pay and get the surplus value. It doesn't work that way with top-end talent.

Instead of just refusing to go carl Edwards style, is there anything stopping someone from going and just giving Trump an earful about how ****** of a person he is? At least try to ruin his day for 5 min?

Tucker should probably get 45-50 AAV. He is again playing at a 9-10 fwar pace. He's not in imminent danger of being a DH. If Jed offers him less than 500 he's dead in the water.

I don’t think it needs to be $500M. He is older than Vlad, so he shouldn’t get the years Vlad got. Judge got $40M a year for 9 years. I can see something like that annual but maybe 12 years. And, honestly, that is a lot. Vlad averaged $36M a year. Tucker should get that. In the end if he goes to free agency it might end up $500M, but I don’t think the Cubs are dead in the water offering 10-12 years with an annual between $36M and $40M
What I really like about what Jed did here is he put it now all on Ricketts. By trading for Tucker he gave Tom an elite talent. Now if Tom doesn’t sign him we all know who is to blame for the Cubs failures. It isn’t Jed, it is Ricketts. We won’t have to question if Jed doesn’t have the stomach for long term deals or if he is just following Ricketts orders. It will be clear it is Ricketts. I love that Hoyer shifted the blame to ownership by making this deal.

If the Cubs are in contention at the deadline they are not trading Tucker. And I would guess they will be contending.

Tony Cruz as well. Died saving former ML’er Esteban German from falling debris.

Sad situation.

Independently developed ofc, def no colluding wouldn’t dream of it and dare you to try and prove otherwise in their court systems lol

I didn’t hear anything for so long, then everyone started offering basically the same thing,” Lynn said.  “Every team seemed to say, ‘This is the best deal you’re going to get.’  When I kept saying, ‘No, you’re only paying me half of what I’m worth,’ they said, ‘What are you going to do, just not play?’  Well, my answer is yes.”

Hell of a future otw. Yes yes I already know this is justified, never not, in this case and almost all others due to aging for sure

I agree with you here, but you're so horsefeathers annoying about it, I don't agree with you here

What is more likely, that teams are calling each other to make sure they don't step out of line with what they offer Lance Lynn(or even the Lance Lynns of the world), or that they all use models that view a pitcher of Lance Lynn's caliber similarly and no one is willing to bet they can squeeze anything more out of Lance Lynn, the 38 year old who throws 90% fastballs?
