I want to say I remember reading in the last 2-3 years he had to completely change his throwing motion/mechanics because the way he use to throw hurt/re-aggrevated his back injury(s)

It seems like the original Capps delivery is still legal if he's dragging his foot and not taking a 2nd 'hop': http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/mlb-has-clarified-its-carter-capps-position/

Which to me is still nonsense. A professional athlete can push-drag their way all the way to the plate just like they can hop, it's just a bit harder. Seems like a big missed opportunity to say 'you can only push off once' or 'you can only push off from the rubber'.

Yeah, I completely concur. I don't understand why baseball doesn't just end or stop this pitching debacle. I believe most "real" baseball fans consider this pitching delivery illegal and don't like it. I wish R. Manfred or whatever committee would just come out and define what a legal pitching motion is, i.e. pushing off the rubber once without dragging your backfoot before delivering the ball. I used to believe your backfoot had to have contact with the pitching rubber on the mound up to the moment you deliver the ball out of your hand as a pitcher. I don't know exactly how to define a "legal" pitching motion in precise terminology, but whatever the hell C. Capps is doing is NOT normal and seems like cheating...

Let's say a righty is pitching from the stretch. Can he start with his left foot on the rubber and pivot 180 degrees on his right foot during his delivery? Yeah, it sounds difficult to do, but now the pitcher may only have to throw 58' instead of 60'-6". As long as the right foot always remained on the ground, wouldn't this be legal, too?

JD Martinez is pretty awesome

“People talk to me and I tell them straight up. I don’t [expletive],” Martinez said. “In the cage, I talk about it all the time. I’m not trying to hit a horsefeathering line drive or a freaking ground ball. I’m trying to hit the ball in the air. I feel like the ball in the air is my strength and has a chance to go anywhere in the park. So why am I trying to hit a ground ball? That’s what I believe in.”

“I always thought the perfect swing was a line drive [back to] the pitcher,” Martinez said. “I’d go out there and hit the ball perfectly, and it’s [a] single. Why is my perfect swing a single?

“You still talk to coaches ‘Oh, you want a line drive right up the middle. Right off the back of the [L-screen in batting practice].’ OK, well that’s a horsefeathering single. To me, the numbers don’t lie. The balls in the air play more.”

LOL, I love the part where they're like "but Max Kepler doesn't agree."

Oh.

Oh.

Can we get Max Kepler in here to let us know his thoughts on Heyward's new swing? Inquiring minds!

People are stupid.

Thing is, she's not just a person. She writes for BP, and both the local BP Cubs/Sox sites.

I wasn't familiar with her until she was a guest on Effectively Wild's White Sox preview episode. She was definitely not the most impressive guest they've had for this series, but I didn't think she was capable of this terrible of an opinion.

I've been aware of her for a while, but I completely agree with the rest.

She has to be trolling for twitter/social media followers/page views

30 minutes ago: I forgot it is not possible to shoot the breeze about things on this website everyone must have their armor up and their guns out. Dang.
