If nothing else, this will force Q to try out some new pairings and maybe he'll find something that works. I think TCI they talked about how Hammer and TVR had good possession numbers together. If they could be paired together for the rest of the season we could see if that's sample bias or a real thing. If it was real, reuniting Marlboro 72 might get Seabrook out of his season long --whatever it is that's made his fancy stats look so bad.

Keith declined is in person hearing and will instead do it by phone today.

Wonder if he is hearing 5 games as well and is just gonna take it without a fight.

Could be. I am just guessing but I think the number is 7. He loses playoff time, so the league does not appear to be lenient.

I doubt the league really cares about appearing lenient. Every decision they make seems lenient to someone.

Even 7 would be fine if they were able to appeal it back to 5 games.

I hate the stupid bonus system in the NHL. Instead of being pumped and rooting on Panarin, it's bitter sweet because every point puts him closer to that cap crippling 1.7m bonus for finishing top 10 in points among forwards.

hossa's 500th for the extra point would be nice

He knew I couldn't watch the game so he's putting it on hold.

800 wins for Q. Have to wonder how long he'll keep going.

Panarin with 11 points in his last 3 games and is now in line for the crippling $1.7m bonus

The guy who replaced the last guy who was going to kill us for cap reasons. I suspect they'll be alright.

Probably but it's still not something that I'm going to cheer for since it makes things more difficult

Even with the bonus, Panarin is a bargain.

Looking at all of the capped leagues leaves me to wonder how much they really help in terms of leveling the playing field. Sure the Hawks would have been really good if they could have kept all the players they had to trade for cap relief. So would a lot of other teams that have had to trade players because they are tight against the cap. Or couldn't get the players they needed to compete.

I'm sure people will read this and think thatif there was no cap, the Hawks would still have Saad, could have kept Ladd, Sharp, Leddy and Oduya. That's true. However, if they had those guys, they would not have Anisimov or Panarin. They also might have kept Niemi longer than they should have.

The good teams find ways around the cap. The bad teams either use it as an excuse to fail or they spend as little as possible. The same 5-6 teams are in the hunt for the championship every year with perhaps 1 or 2 out of nowhere teams that make for a good story but fade pretty quickly. That's certainly the case in the NFL. Are there ever more than 4 teams that could conceivably win the NBA championship?

How is that certainly the case in the nfl?

I bet you could accurately predict 6 of the 8 division winners today. I would also bet that if you made a list of 6 teams that could win the super bowl the winner would be on your list. I suggest this is true of most capped leagues. Which illustrates the point that the cap isn't leveling the playing field very much.

The NFL is different since teams can get immediate help from the draft. So there's more hope for a team like Miami to make the playoffs but they're still unlikely to win the super bowl.

I don't think you could predict 6/8 division winners today. Also can you imagine if the NBA didn't have a cap? LeBron would form an allstar team with all his buddies and win the league every year. Or maybe getting rid of Max salaries would limit him somewhat?

I don't think you could predict 6/8 division winners today. I don't think what you're saying is correct either. I think baseball (non-cap sport you're comparing NFL, NBA, and NHL against) playoffs are just a crapshoot. Also can you imagine if the NBA didn't have a cap? LeBron would form an allstar team with all his buddies and win the league every year. Or maybe getting rid of Max salaries would limit him somewhat.

The NFL is pretty predictable....

Not sure you can make those predictions TODAY, but after the draft...in the preseason...yeah, you probably could.
