For once both games on the Florida trip should be great games.

I'm not completely sold on the Panthers success but the Lightning have been playing better and should be really motivated.

As a semi-outsider (I've bandwagon jumped enough that I'll watch during the playoffs and maybe at some point that'll get me interested enough to watch regular season because more sports to watch with interest = good), and as someone who followed the stuff about the case on here in the offseason along with you guys, I'm just wondering how icky you guys feel about how insanely good of a year Kane is having. I'm obviously a hockey noob, but it's hard not to hear about how well he's played this season.

Every time I see something on the news or on Twitter about him having another awesome game or streak or whatever, I'm like OF COURSE this is playing out this way.

I have found it pretty easy to cheer for the Hawks and watch them with interest while still feeling that Kane is a sleezebag.

Unfair comparison based on 30 seconds of research: another Brandon Pirri?

Dude can skate fast but what other skills does he have?

Good question. Part of me tries to put it out of my mind and almost rationalize that since he wasn't charged I can't just think of him as a rapist, but it can't help but think about it whenever his name is brought up. I am certainly not mad or upset when he scores, but im probably not buying his jersey for my kids or myself even.

The ability to be a free agent next year/open up cap space is probably his greatest talent for this team.

Considering I've watched sports for a long time I've found it really easy to separate on field accomplishments from a player's personal life.

Yeah I'm sure the fact that the cap is likely going down more than expected yet again played a major factor.

yeah.

I haven't made much of an effort to watch games, but will throw the NBCSN games on for a while. It's been fun to follow them doing well in a hangover season and there's no denying Kane's been great. But I'm not going gaga over it like I would if a Cubs or Bears (or other Blackhawks player) were doing similarly amazing things this year.

Pretty much where I am. I thought it would bother me more than it has, but I guess I'll just have to live with myself enjoying when the best player on my favorite sports team does good things, even though he's probably a scummy person. But I don't go out of my way to talk about him despite the season he's having.

Garbutt wasn't a good match for this team.

And in the end what all this shows is how badly Stan felt he needed to clear Sharp's salary. Can't argue, the team is doing just fine obviously.

Not often does a trade go that south for us.

Viktor Stalberg might be a more apt comparison. A fast winger with skill that hasn't really fit in on two different teams. Sekac may have a little more upside than Stalberg but he hasn't shown it yet. That could be lack of opportunity. We'll see. As someone said earlier, they traded away the 2nd year of having to pay Garbutt so even if Sekac never amounts to anything it's still a chance worth taking.

What might be more interesting is how this affects Dano and to a lesser extent Panik as Sekac could supplant either of those guys in what everyone assumes would be their roles.

This is the first time the Blackhawks have trailed this year.

Was it really? As in 2016?

Last time they trailed before last night was the beginning of the 1st period on NYE of last year.

Streak had to end, this was the game I figured it probably would. As for the playoffs, I really like this team's chances. Going into the season I thought it might mirror the 2010-11 season but so far anyway they look like one of the top 3 Cup contenders.

I don't know what the hell that was last night, but seems a good time for the all-star break. Wish more of our guys were staying home.

It seemed like they were playing every other night the whole month of January. Some teams have played as many as 6 games less than them. It will benefit them as they get towards the playoffs as the schedule will be lighter(only 29 games post ASG)
