I get all of that TT, but I want more then anything a WS win with an undeniable team. And Price or Greinke adds depth. Even if it's top end.

We can not sign either of those two guys and still win the WS. Deniable teams win it all the time.

Yes, it was acknowledged that they can, the point was a better team increases your chances.

According to Peter Gammons, Lackey and Alex Gordon are two names he's hearing most with the Cubs.

I just really hate Lackey as a person and find him underwhelming as a pitcher.

Ditto. Arrietta can only counter a finite amount of douches.

He's a douche but I'm not opposed to Lackey on a reasonable 2 year deal. I would just hope that's not our only starter acquisition.

If it's paired with heyward, I have no issue with him being the only starter we get. If he's somehow the best player we get, then I'll be pissed until around February when I start getting excited about watching us roll to a division title anyway.

Yours is much better.

At a 140 million payroll, you probably have to do something uncomfortable to make Heyward fit(like trading Hammel, Coghlan, or Castro) in addition to backloading Heyward a bit.

Hopefully he pitches a complete game shutout in game 6 of the world series and then immediately dies and doesn't get to celebrate when we win it all.

I don't really like this move in a vacuum, but if it allows us to go after Heyward, Gordon or Upton (more so on the latter 2 if Soler is dealt) I don't mind it as much.

trading coghlan and/or castro to make room for heyward is like lazyboy comfortable

in a vacuum how could you not love it? it's almost guaranteed neutral value with some potential for solid surplus plus very short term commitment.

it's outside said vacuum that you can find reasons to not like it, IMO
