This signing really puts the Cards in a perilous situation with their SP. Barring any moves, here is what they look like in 2016:

1. Wainwright

2. Martinez

3. Wacha

4. Garcia

5. Lyons

If the Cubs managed to steal Heyward, their offense would be in an even bigger hole. They pretty much have to land one of Chris Davis or Jason Heyward if they realistically want a shot at the division.

Yeah right. Tommy Pham will probably win the triple crown leading them to back-to-back 100 win seasons.

It won't matter when the Cubs win 101.

lackey got the playoff money?

Maybe? That's a pretty standard distribution if the signing bonus is just supposed to be amortized but it'd also make some sense for it to be the playoff money in this case. Hard to tell for certain, maybe it's ambiguous on purpose and the playoff money is going *somewhere*, but they aren't sure if it's Lackey yet.

Not sure we knew this, but it's 2 years so I don't care all that much.

Lackey's $7 million signing bonus gets broke down as such, he gets $2 million this year and $5 million in 2017

Where did you see that?

I would expect them to be 1st in line if Fielder is on the block (if they miss on Heyward).

I kind of care. I mean I'm not outraged, but it's a little annoying.

Thanks! That's good news, it lowers Lackey's 2016 number and means that he's probably not getting the Lackey/Tanaka money treatment so that money is still potentially available.

Yeah, leaves me optimistic we still have decent money left for Heyward. Also Mooney had in his article today the info on the $7 million being 2 this year and 5 in 2017, so Muskat's info has been confirmed. Which is good because she certainly fucks up a lot.

Let's hope it doesn't matter. The only reason it would be an issue is if the Cubs were sellers at the deadline in the next 2 seasons.

Kind of funny that Lackey is such a colossal jag that they didn't even present him to the media.

Maybe they were holding out on his presser to wait for Heyward to sign so they can do a dual one to shove it down St. Louis' throat

They should hold it in St. Louis. Maybe at the local Camaro dealership.
