God I hope the Blue Jays win tomorrow so we don't play in the [expletive] afternoon on Monday.

I didn't even realize a non-afternoon game was possible. Triples the intensity that I was going to root for the Texans already.

Wait, now I'm very confused. How does them winning keep us from playing in the afternoon? I assumed non-competition would bump the Cubs to primetime?

You would think so, but nope. The Cubs are either the 2nd game out of o3 or the 3rd game out of 4. The 3rd game out of 4 makes it just a slightly later start time.

 

It's because as of now, the Dodgers-Mets game is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET in New York with the Cubs scheduled at 6 p.m. ET. They'll move that up to 8 and move the Cubs to 4:30 so there's less likely to be an overlap.

I'm sure Russell will start at SS, but he is 0-5 vs. Wacha. Coghlan is 1-8.

I'll try not to romanticize the significance of it too much, since it was only one game. But, how great was that game from Jorge Soler? I remember how excited I was about him last year. I'm thinking of that bomb he hit in Busch last year and how easy it was to fantasize about him doing something similar in a game with more implications. At the time, it was like, yeah, be ready for a steady dose of this in the future, Redbirds. And then he pumpkin'd on us this year. But, then today, he sorta reintroduced himself, as if to say, don't forget about me, guys. It's not that the one game magically changes anything with him or anything like that. He could go back to pumpkin status tomorrow and stay that way until the end of time. It was just fun, in the sense of: Oh yeah, we have this dongsmith, as well.

i read through the thread and among my favorite things, especially early on, was the call for bryant to be benched. good [expletive].

Man, I really wish Soler hadn't turned out to be such a catastrophe defensively.

 

Careful not to read too much into one (limited) season's worth of extreme (good or bad) defensive numbers. I don't think that's necessarily what he is.

 

Also, I think his presence alone at least has some impact on the chances teams will take on the bases, which isn't really taken into account.
