The only thing I can see is Maddon allowing Coghlan to hit. Even though the pitcher has reverse splits, I don't think I have ever seen Coghlan have a good AB against a lefty.

 

You could argue more of Mathenys moves have worked out but I don't know if that's more than dumb luck

Garcia basically throws a variation of a fastball or a changeup 95% of the time, which is a bit unique, but also is a trait he shares with Lynn and Wacha, pitchers the Cubs bombed multiple times in September.

 

Or in other words, he doesn't have a strikeout breaking pitch, that's bad news against the Cubs.
