If we win the Wild Card, I am going to miss Game 1 of the NLDS, unless they play during the day. I help coach a high school football team, so I will be at our game. And they always announce Cubs and Cardinals scores over the P.A. system, too. So I am not going to be able to avoid hearing the outcome and watch it later on DVR. I'm really dreading it. I just don't know how I am going to deal with missing a playoff game.

I had a similar situation in high school. I had to be out taking video for our broadcast class at games that took place during an NLDS game one week and an NLCS game the next. I brought a portable radio at the time (pre-smartphones and all that).

Planning a fall wedding is dumb.

Mine is December 5th so not really fall, I got the Friday rate for a Saturday as Dec-Feb is the slow season for weddings. Nothing big is really going on sports wise. I just cringe every August when our fantasy football drafts has to move to a Tuesday night because some dope decided to get married in August and has to celebrate his anniversary.

Fall weddings are awesome. Hot summer weddings are for idiots.

This.. Especially when it's outside and 95F and the bride insists on an hour ceremony

A wedding I went to in North Carolina this summer expressly said on the invitation that people could wear whatever they wanted (at a business/church casual-level) and still most of the suckers showed up completely dressed up to the nines and sweating their bits off in an un-air conditioned church. Madness.

Worst one I've been to was a buddy of mine from grad school. He got married in Iowa City, and a bunch of people from school drove there from Chicago. We get there and the ceremony is over (they had a tiny thing on campus with just close family) and the reception was in this former church (basically the entire altar/pews were cleared out so it was a big open room). No air conditioning. It was about 30 minutes of dinner, a few speeches, and then it was over. We all look at each other like "we drove all this way for THAT?", and then proceeded straight into the City to hit as many bars as possible

I'm a freelance sportswriter for a local newspaper and cover HS football games on Friday night's. I requested the 9th off right when they announced the NLDS dates. Good thing is there is no more Friday night games planned after that.

Duke - Call in sick.

God yes. My brother and his wife had their wedding in late August, outdoors, without shade, in the early afternoon, in Albuquerque. The ceremony was only about 30 minutes, but it felt like two hours. Wearing a 50's style suit (it was a Mad Men themed wedding) and black patent leather shoes, I thought that I might actually combust.

A few months later, I told him that the time and place had been a really bad idea, and he admitted that they both had regretted it almost immediately.

I'm confident and terrified at the same time if that makes sense.

I'm happy there's no way we can blow a two-game lead with one to clinch.

same. i’ve only been to one truly bad wedding, which was clearly a case of wanting to get married at a certain venue (beautiful winery/hotel in temecula) but not being able to afford it. on a monday, CASH BAR, a really sad piece of chicken, no music, over by 9. i was at in-n-out by 9:30. when half the guests fly across the country and pay $300 a night to stay the hotel, you need to give them some sort of party. no one cares about the scenery or the fancy centerpieces or how your pictures will turn out.

Yeah, this season has been so fun that the thought of it potentially ending due to the outcome of one game make me antsy.

That sums it up

I'm refusing to believe this team will do good things in the playoffs until they actually do. I'm a baseball doomsday prepper.
