I know I'm ahead of myself, but is home field advantage determined by straight up record in the NLCS? Or would a division champ always get it over the wild card? i.e. Is there value in the Dodgers and/or Mets losing games to us beyond the fact that we'll overtake the Cardinals anyway?

I am 99% certain there is a seeding process wherein the wild card is always below any division winner regardless of record.

I assumed the same, just didn't know if they made a change with the 2 wild card system.

WC never will have HFA in the NLCS. You could have a 96 win Cubs team playing a 85 win Mets team with HFA.

I'm pretty sure WC never gets homefield

Heh, I had this exact thought yesterday and looked it up. Per Wiki, division winners have home field over a wild card in the LCS.

Random thought: have two teams that were playing each other ever clinched on the same day and both partied in the clubhouse afterwards? Unlikely but possible scenarios are the Cubs and Pirates clinching on the same day while playing each other. In the very unlikely department is the Cubs and Royals clinching on the same day while playing each other.

If it were two teams clinching spots they're pretty much locked into, and they played each other the next day, you could see some really interesting lineups.

AJ Burnett with his first start since July. Thus far: 2 outs, 3 runs

To ARCubsFan and all of his treacherous kin: The Cards are getting beat 6-0. But, yeah, the division was never a realistic option, and yesterday's game didn't really matter. Edited by Duke Silver

Man, getting that game yesterday would have been nice. Cards getting spanked in Cincinnati right now and Garcia didn't get through 5.

yep

like i said, even if we gain those back immediately in the next two days, i'm just gonna be lamenting the fact that it could/should be 3.5

I was furious yesterday. And now I am even more furious. And I don't even get to see any dongs tonight, either.

I'm still pissed off enough from yesterday that part of me wants the Pirates to pass the Cards so we can be the ones to end St. Louis' season, in front of the bfib.

Also, it's fun to see the Cards regressing to the mean at the worst possible time.

It's kinda the best possible time. I wish it had happened two months ago.
