Agreed. Cards win game 2. Cubs take 1,3,4.

Considering we've won one playoff round in the last 107 years I'll take a series win in any capacity but at Wrigley would be extra nice

Well, technically, winning against St Louis would be the third playoff round won.

Ok matchups are now locked in

AL Wild Card Game: Houston Astros (86-76) at New York Yankees (87-75)

NL Wild Card Game: Chicago Cubs (97-65) at Pittsburgh Pirates (98-64)

ALDS 1: Texas Rangers (88-74) at Toronto Blue Jays (93-69)

ALDS 2: Astros/Yankees at Kansas City Royals (95-67)

NLDS 1: New York Mets (90-72) at Los Angeles Dodgers (92-70)

NLDS 2: Chicago Cubs (97-65) at St. Louis Cardinals (100-62)

Quick 1st round predictions:

Yankees 6, Astros 2

Cubs 5, Pirates 1

Blue Jays over Rangers 3-0

Royals over Yankees 3-2

Dodgers over Mets 3-1

[expletive] it..Cubs over Cardinals 3-2

Won't dare predict from that point on

looking at the records of all of these teams and then seeing the cubs as a road team in the wild card game makes me mildly irate.

Just because the 95-67 Royals have home field advantage throughout the playoffs and the 97-65 Cubs can't have home field advantage in any round?

I just think of how much angrier I'd be 4 years ago.

that's the least of it, really. at least the royals posted a really good record this season. the cubs posted the third best record out of 30 major league teams, yet to win a championship they'll have to beat 4 teams, all of which will have home field advantage, including one team which they'll play in a one game coin toss.

the stupid all-star game deciding WS HFA has got to go. I can't believe it's lasted this long.

the way it was determined for years before that lasted even longer and was arguably dumber. just as bad at best.

It's hard to top "winner of July exhibition game where 90% of participants will not actually play in the World Series"

and yet somehow "alternating by even and odd numbered years" is somehow in contention

I think they should go with whatever league has the better overall record in interleague play.

I don't mind that, I would prefer just giving it to whichever team has the best overall record.

What's the reasoning again? Something about hotel rooms?

I don't understand why its a challenge for the MLB but not for the NBA

hotel thing makes zero sense since they still don't know what the teams will be in advance

it's a really stupid rule, but among fans of teams that consider themselves strong WS contenders, there's a huge amount of interest in the game. more interest = more eyeballs = more revenue. for that reason, i don't see it going away.
