2 things from watching the celebration again:

1) no bubble gum bucket hat on Herrera. DFA

2) Soriano started jumping up and down and congratulating Bryant before he must have realized (wait I suck) and then kind of just walks away from the crowd of players

The Cubs and Rockies are good for at least one instant classic at Wrigley almost every year...

just off the top of my head:

-The Angel Hernandez/Ricky Gutierrez game in 2001

-Huge lead blown followed by rally with Soriano walkoff single in 2007

-Epic comeback capped by DeRosa game winning homer in 2008

-Chris Volstad throwing 6.2 shutout innings in 2012 (ok, no one remembers that, but I looked it up and laughed)

-"The John Baker game" last year

Chalk up another. Really makes you wonder about higher powers.

After seeing the balls Russell and Ross hit, I kinda sorta 25% expected Bryant to do that

They're not going to DFA Soriano after 3 (bad) outings. Medina is still on the roster for crying out loud. I do think this game (and Friday's game) pushes Grimm and Rondon to the 8th and 9th innings and Soriano into the Jaxon role. Edited by Gilby

That takes some brass [expletive] balls for a 23 year old to go deep in that context

Wait, just the other day I had 3 guys defending Motte telling me how good he is, how good he's been since May, and how he throws "so hard" and has regained his closer stuff.. Now he's the guy in the question.. Stop looking at numbers, start looking at stuff. Do they get hit hard? What's the batting average on balls in play? Do hitters look lost against him or is he having a lot of balls hit right at people? I'm not trying to be a jackass, I just feel like way too many people see numbers and not real stuff. Strop's "stuff" is probably the best in the pen, but you know what's funny? Most fans right now would say he's the worst pitcher in the pen. Rondon's stuff is above-average, but not amazing. Motte throws a good fastball, and that's it. Anyone in baseball can hit a fastball. Grimm's stuff is slightly above average. Soriano's stuff, he has nothing - he was signed on reputation alone. Ramirez hasn't been the guy he was last year and watch video to compare - his fastball is flat and his command is off. He has good stuff, but it hasn't been there this year.

I'm seriously just laughing in my seat right now because the Cubs won - that makes me happy, and they won in a game that showed how bad their pen really is, forcing them to have to make a move or two to improve the pen.

All the homers on here who ripped on me for dogging the Cubs pen the last 6 weeks before they imploded - you're forgiven. I accept your apology.

i'm loving this weirdo's 12 post monologue that nobody is acknowledging.

What did Maddon just say about Soriano? I rewound it 4 times and still couldn't make out what he said. The best conclusion I can come to is that he decided against commenting on Soriano's stuff and quickly changed the subject to Motte.

I don't know a single fan who would say that.

I'm not saying your necessarily wrong but I don't remember anyone saying that about Motte. Maybe 3 weeks ago but if you look at the advance stats you could see things weren't looking good.

And who is saying That Strop is the worst pitcher in the pen? Lol

This should set up a trade for Kimbrel and one of: Ross, Kennedy, Cashner. Coupling Kimbrel with them is more appealing for Padres due his 10mil+/year salary and works out well Cubs too. Kimbrel scares me through 2017 however with his stuff not being as missed this year. People have hit him a lot harder this year.
