Cubs lost today but are still in the second wild card spot and can wrap up a series win tomorrow. This appears to be a favorable pitching matchup so hopefully the Cubs take advantage. Last time I started a game thread, the Cubs lost but then won the next six so I'll be willing to sacrifice this game if the same thing happens after the loss again.

Go Cubs!

On this day 139 years ago, 25 June 1876, the first place CUBS (White Stockings) were enjoying a day off in Chicago awaiting the arrival of the Philadelphia Athletics after having just swept the New York Mutuals in a 3 game series.

In other news, in a contest that took place out in Montana, George Custers' team got beaten by the Indians. Although an exact final score was never reported, it is generally agreed that it was an extreme rout.

Go CUBS !!

I like Chris Denorfia, but when he's by far your best hitter of the 4-8 group, that's...not good.

That might be as bad of a 6-9 as anything we put out in the dark ages of 2010-2014

I came into this week hoping for 2-2 split and taking 2 of 3 from the Cardinals. After beating Greinke and Kershaw to start the week, I'd be very disappointed if they don't win this game.

Also #freerussell, love him higher up in the lineup. Be nice if he made a couple great plays at SS and never moves from that position again.

Arismendy Alcantara has a 875 OPS for the last month, for what very little it's apparently worth

Maybe Maddon should try giving one player off per day, not 5.. Woof.. We are better off hoping Frias loses instead of hoping we win.

Eh. Lineup complaints are overblown. The Cubs go as Rizzo and Bryant go. The other guys in the lineup won't get completely shutdown. But if Rizzo and Bryant don't each get a couple hits, extra base hit, and/or on base a couple times....the Cubs should be able to score 4+ runs.

We knew Ross was going to be Lester's catcher before he was even signed, so I don't get the complaining every time he catches him. And the Cubs have been unfortunate enough to have every one of their projected bench players miss most of the year, combine that with a day-to-day injury, and the birth of a baby, a couple struggling/injured prospects, and you have this.

But again, Rizzo and Bryant are enough to carry this offense, with the way the Cubs have pitched most of the year.

Who has the day off? An injured player and one having a baby? Face it. The Cubs bench is short a man, and they have about 4 players who would be on the bench if they weren't hurt right now (and Alcantara).
