John, I too am hearing from my sources that Cubs are looking to address 2B for now and the future, and the name I heard was Jason Kipnis from Cleveland. I heard the Cubs FO is prepared to move Javier Baez, Kyle Hendricks and another significant prospect (not top 10 necessarily) for Cleveland's all star 2B.

I was scrolling thru comments and noticed this from old time NSBBer Hoopscubs, sent to Arguello.

Slow ass news day.

You'd think there would have to be a pitcher coming back from Cleveland, too. Otherwise we have opened up a big issue by trading Hendricks.

I'm hoping to find some ABTY nuggets, but either he quit rumor mongering completely or at least had the sense to change names/sites/etc.

I know where he is. I'm not telling, but it's good and you would all love it if you knew.

Without regard for the validity of Hoops, the fact that we've gone from "insane middle infield logjam" to searching for a long-term answer at 2b being plausible is pretty insane.

Sounds about right; I kinda think the FO really don't know what to make of Castro and Baez. Castro I could still see them signing way back when if they were in charge at the time, but I doubt they draft Baez like the Cubs did at the time.

didn't Meph basically drive him away. Is there anything Meph didn't ruin?

The lesson from that list shouldn't be "Hammel is a No. 2." It's "statline scouting pitchers for half a season isn't a good predictor."

I was trying to prove that Hammel is a perfectly fine, if not great, #3 starter to have on a contending team instead of just "a decent pitcher, but not a #3 on a contender he is a good #4/5 tho"

If he pitches like he did in the first half of the season in perpetuity, then absolutely. I don't know if that's something you can count on.

In 2012, he put up a great 118 innings for the Orioles, then fell apart in 2013. In 2014, he put up a great 108 innings for the Cubs, then fell apart in 2013. So we've gotten 115 or whatever good innings from him in 2015, and that's awesome, but I'm not exactly excited about his second half.

What do we have that the Dodgers would want though?

Don't think we are a great fit for them 1 for 1 as I doubt they are really interested in prospects and probably want more immediate impact guys, guessing we'd have to get involved in a 3-way with them with us sending prospects to a 3rd team. Maybe something involved in a Hamels deal.

i have little to no interest in puig at the cost it would take to trade for him. i feel like watching him every day would make me murder someone.

Yeah. Watching Soler's questionable defense the past 2 games makes me imagine how much I would hate some of Puig's truly astonishingly bad decisions. Though I would enjoy the living bejeezus out of every HR, bat flip, and SB.

Aside from his disappointing stats this season, what does Puig do that pisses people off so much? Legitimately asking, because I don't pay much attention to the Dodgers. Is he just a total dick? Is it overblown Starlin-like "mental mistakes"?

Oh, he's a dick (which I don't mind at all), but he makes Starlin look like Derek Jeter when it comes to mental awareness. Apparently he's terrible in the clubhouse, too, but no one really knows if that's true except his teammates.

My negative feelings toward Puig are irrational. I couldn't care less if a player is an douche, as long as he's good that's what's important. And while Puig has been good, for some reason I just don't think he's as good as he's hyped up to be. And like IMB said, it will cost a ton to get him. He gets treated like he's in the same rarified air as Bryce Harper and Mike Trout, and he simply isn't, but that won't stop the Dodgers from probably trying to coax a package out of someone who thinks he is.

I want an all Cuban OF, dammit. Trade for Puig and sign Cespedes in the offseason and RAMPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGE.

Sure, it'll be madness-inducing at times, but then they'll be launching amazing bat flips and throwing out dudes at home with bullet throws and it'll be so sweet.

Yeah, I don't get it. Easily my favorite and most fun player to watch play baseball aside from trout.
