Assume this would be a better place to talk about hirings, firings, transfers, rule changes, who's going pro, and the inevitable NCAA violations.

Ben Howland hired at Mississippi State. Great hire for them. Another "what the hell are you doing?" for DePaul on this one.

Herb Sendek out at Arizona State--rumor is that it's "Jeff Capel's job if he wants it".

Also, Gregg Marshall is apparently going to be offered a monster deal from Alabama. He loves Wichita and is compensated well, but said he would "have to listen" if it's a ridiculous offer.

I think he might on Texas' wish list too along with Smart, Krystkowiak, Buzz Williams, and a whole lot more people once we fire Barnes.

It looks like buffalo is looking to give Hurley a substantial raise.

Its setting up nicely for Warble or Drew. Like Howl and, it's Hurley's to lose at this point.

If it falls through? I wonder if they would look outside the box (Randy Brown) current director of player development for the Bulls as well as a Chicago native.

Donnie Tyndall out at Tennessee due to NCAA violations that he committed at Southern Miss.

Also, rumors that Rick Barnes might step down at Texas. Archie Miller signed a contract extension through 2021, but rumor has it that Texas would go after him if Barnes goes away.

Personally, I hate all of this because DePaul has been so slow on hiring a coach that their main targets could go elsewhere (to jobs that are currently open, or to other, better, jobs that will become vacant if their coaches take some of the current open jobs).

I can remember when DePaul was a destination under Ray Meyer, but sadly those days are long gone. WGN-TV used to carry games. Since it's a stepping stone job for some young up and coming coach I would think someone like Bobby Hurley would be a good fit. But if he's good, he won't be here for years. I am under the impression there's a lot of administration involvement and the powers don't want to give it up. With the new 10,000 seat arena, you gotta win to fill the seats.

Steve Lavin fired at St. Johns.

Supposedly a mutual parting of the ways, but weren't they just working on an extension? I could've sworn I saw that on the ESPN ticker.

I'm 99% sure Barnes is gone. I have zero clue to who they want though. Don't even care, just happy he is gone.

There's a small chance that a coach with the right personality and commitment to the program could stay. DePaul is nothing right now but of decent years and the new stadium and there might be a buzz. I honestly think with the right coach DePaul has enough talent to compete for the NCAA tourney. If they can get that buzz back, however small you have a good team in a top flight conference. There are definitely better and higher profile conferences but the gap between the Big East and the Big 10 is a lot smaller than the Horizon league and Big Ten.

Oh, and another Creaning.

And for just a moment, we are not over-signed. Soon to change if Thomas Bryant commits (please please please).

Some ESPN guy is claiming Smart really wants the Texas job.

Isn't he from Wisconsin? Bo isn't getting any younger.

Yep, but is Bo going to retire in the next 2-4 years. Smart can double his salary today.

I don't think that is his primary concern.

Holy hell. Apparently after looking at all the good candidates and not a lot of competition for coaches, DePaul dug deep and it looks like they are going to rehire....Dave Leitao?

Let's recap...Leitao starts building somewhat of a decent program, getting them to the NCAA tournament and having them competing in their conference. He ditches them to head to Virginia, where he falls flat on his face and is fired after 4 bad years. He resurfaced 2 years later to coach a freaking NBADL team in Maine before heading back as an assistant at Missouri. He is now an assistant at freaking Tulsa and is putting his tail between his legs to come back to DePaul.

He's older (54), he has had basically one season of success since leaving UConn, has no ties to Chicago other than his time at DePaul and this is the hire DePaul feels it needs to make?

The scary thing is the possibility that none of the other names talked about have expressed interest in DePaul.

DePaul's hiring process is akin to some of the perpetually bad BIG football programs. Aim low with your hire, guarantee really results. Rinse and repeat

Neither do I, but waiting around for Ryan to retire doesn't seem smart either. His value isn't exactly increasing the last 2 years.

Illini need to land Marcus LoVett

He'd be the most important recruit since Dee.

Process was actually fine until the end. Both Hurley and Drew were on campus and would have been GREAT hires. They said no, so they panicked. It's a [expletive] disaster.
