Yowza, apparently Caleb Swanigan is backing out on MSU and will go to Purdue. No big deal for a lot of schools but this would be Painter's first 5 star recruit, McDonald's AA, etc. With Hammons returning, this has to put us in the running for a B1G championship. Now we just need a transfer PG.

people saying that LoVett will be an Illini if Groce can get him past admissions.

Devin Davis and Hanner Mosquera Perea kicked off of IU's basketball team after getting caught with weed at a party. Not the first time either has been caught with weed or heavily intoxicated. Sucks to lose 2 of the few front court players we had. Who knows what Davis would have been after the accident last year. Perea would have been a big part of next year's potential top 15 team.

So was it ever officially announced that he intended to head to Purdue? Because now UK is apparently making a strong push, as you predicted. :P

Yeah, so hopefully Colin Hartman is prepared to spend another season playing a lot of center when Bryant gets winded and/or gets in foul trouble.

I thought Davis was the only one who actually got cited by the cops.

Lesson to be learned - don't smoke your dope in the dorms when you are an IU basketball player.

Yeah, Davis was the one who had the weed. HMP was with him at the time though, and again it's not the first time for either so I think they'd had enough.

No, nothing official. Very weird recruitment.

Swanigan to Purdue is a done deal. [expletive].

Is that a positive expletive? I don't know why it'd be a negative one.

Lovett to St. John's. Oh well, we'll get a recruit some day.

The big question is whether this will prevent him from being Big 10 POY?

That's a great get. Will be interesting to see how Painter integrates him with the Hammons (I see far less high school hoops than I used to, so not sure how comfortable he'll be high-low as anything other than the low). Purdue should be able to brutalize most teams inside.

He's ranked about 70 spots below JCL.

who isn't a pg. LoVett's ranked low because of his academic standing and lack of interest due to that, or because he's relatively unknown.

Illinois only got JCL because Michigan backed off for whatever reason. With no personal issue red flags to speak of, one can only assume that they thought he wasn't that good.

Illinois never gets kids that they have to go up against high majors for, except maybe Wisconsin, and only then because the kids grow up loving their state.

The good news is that we have Jordan and Williams and Paul coming in next year. Wait, that's the bad news. Don't know what the good news is, maybe we won't finish last.

Should be fun to watch. I haven't seen Swanigan play but from what I've read he has a face up game and a good mid-range jumper. Hammons/Haas at the 5, Swanigan at the 4, and Vince Edwards at the 3. We're going to be big and skilled. That's not even counting Stephens, Mathias, Cline as shooters and the B1G DPOY in Davis. The only place we won't be able to score a lot from is the PG spot and that's fine as long as we get adequate passing and defense out of that spot.

This is the most pumped about Purdue basketball I've been since the day Hummel blew out his knee (again) in 2010.

While I agree with you, other schools make mistakes. We only got Deron Williams because UNC got Felton and Georgia Tech got Jarret Jack. That worked out ok for us. Also if you watched the Jordan game, JCL played well against top competition.

pretty much goes to show you that even Self had difficulties getting kids to come to Champaign. this problem may run deeper than just the administration or coaches.

Self wasn't really Self then. Wish he'd have stayed one more year. Would have been interesting to see if he would have got Villenueva on campus.

Michigan stopped recruiting Coleman when D-III transfer Duncan Robinson committed

i think that could have simply been a bird-in-the-hand situation (conversely, the Jaylen Brown pursuit probably cost us Kenny Williams), but imo Beilein targeting a player in the first place is a huge endorsement for their talent- nobody seems to scout better
