well this all could've gone a lot worse.

Seriously. When the season ended I expected to be disappointed at the GM and HC hires. Instead we got a highly praised and respected GM, a solid coach with a good track record and (IMO) great assistants. Very happy with how this played out. But we have a lot of work to do

Others have said it and I agree, I was not interested in Fox but I do like what I have seen of the staff.

I have no idea what Gase is going to do. Do you guys?

Like in terms of what kind of offense? I am not sure but I did read that Fox and Gase would (respectfully) but heads because Fox is an old school "run to set up the pass" kind of guy and Gase is more of a innovative cutting edge offensive mind who likes to pass more frequently than Fox is comfortable with.

@ctownsportstalk

Source tells me that Ryan Pace has been reaching out to #Bears alumni for input/thoughts on hires.

Source: "every year #Bears ask alumni to come to Halas and talk to rookies. I expect a lot more of things like this to happen."

hopefully that ends up being the case

Gase had two separate Bears interviews, one for HC and one for OC, right? Heh, wonder if that's ever happened before.

not in the same year but dave martinez managed to do something similar in back to back years

I've been convinced for a while that Walterfootball.com is terrible, and this grade on the Ravens hiring Trestman isn't helping to reverse that decision...

Ravens hire OC Marc Trestman: A Grade

I'm not in a particularly great mood, or anything, just in case you were wondering after seeing all of these "A" grades I've given out today. I just think these teams have made terrific hires.

Marc Trestman got the most out of Jay Cutler in 2013, but was fired after a failed 2014 campaign in which Culter stopped caring and trying. It's not Trestman's fault that his quarterback had absolutely no heart, and he probably didn't deserve to lose his job. He has a brilliant offensive mind, and he'll serve as a perfect replacement for Gary Kubiak as Baltimore's offensive coordinator. Dubbed the "quarterback whisperer," Trestman could have Joe Flacco playing the best football of his career in 2015.

Yea Walter has some terrible views- very meatbally towards Cutler in particular. I think he graded the firing of Trestman as an F. Still one of the better sites for the draft just due to having weekly updates

How everyone has been convinced that the entirety of the Bears problems this year are completely on Cutler is beyond me. It's like they've never watched any team sport before ever.

Yeah, I mean I still go there just because of the frequent updates, but weekly updates of terrible opinions isn't valuable to me.

He's gonna offer at least a decent aggregate of risers/fallers throughout the draft process which would be the interesting part to me.

You're probably better off with NFLDraftTek. I look at both, but give deference to NDT for the most part.

Yea both are on the list.

The media keeps implying the on-the-field product was all that doomed Trestman...a good part of it, of course.

But losing the locker room is the cardinal sin of coaching and Cutler had nothing to do with that.

All the "coach-killer" crap is a joke.

Fair enough. If Flacco doesn't have a career year, ipso facto he's a petulant jerk with absolutely no heart, who stopped caring and trying. And probably never did.

Holy crap, I cant believe that a semi-respected sight has that idiotic of opinions.

Also Trestman is a slimeball for trying to make Cutler the scapegoat on his way out the door.

To the national medias credit, I feel like only Bears fans or people covering the Bears daily really had a true idea of how bad things got this season, and much of it you can blame on the coaching staff.

Yeah, Walter is easier to digest. That said, I appreciate NDT's rankings and how they pay attention to draftees' overall value.

Gase's scheme is pretty aggressive. About 60/40 pass/run the 2 years as Broncos OC. Obviously broke every offensive record in 2013, with him at the helm. I think his biggest asset is his ability to adapt the offense based on what the defense is giving him. I know he had a genius at QB, who checked out of bad plays and played matchups, but he also gets a lot of credit for helping Mike McCoy design an offense that helped lead Tim Tebow to the playoffs.

Be interesting to see how much of it was Gase vs. Manning, and if Cutler will have the same ability to check out of bad plays and see the matchups. Also, to see how he adjusts for Cutler's arm strength vs. Peyton's noodle arm. My biggest issue with the Trestman offense was the lack of pick plays/rub routes called across the middle with huge WRs/TE to allow guys to get open with room to run. Hopefully, that will be changed.

Refuse to call Vick by his name too. Call him QB Dogkiller or something like that. They also randomly give players hyphenated names that they don't go by. Like I believe they called the WR, Miles Austin-Jones or something like that.

But seriously though, is that a belief that people have outside the Bears/Bears fans, that Cutler gave up stopped caring and trying? That's idiotic...
