Awesome that we got Fangio. I'll be surprised if I'm not happy with the OC hire.

Got it. Wonder if his assessment is that Emery and his micromanagement of that side was problematic, rather than the skill level of the scouts.

If I had to guess I think it is more about making do with what his options are at the moment.

Yeah, seems like it'd be hard to implement a ton of change on that front at this stage.

I don't think the Bears go full 3-4, but I see a 4-3 hybrid definitely as a strong possibility. Fangio typically likes big DL, so be interesting to see what happens to guys like Allen and Paea (whether he's re-signed or not).

I think this opens up the draft, and the Bears almost have to go edge rusher at 7. It's where the value is at that point in the draft. Shane Ray, I like a lot. But I might actually like Bud Dupree more.

Hopefully this makes UK feel better:

Adam Gase interviewed with the Ravens yesterday for the same position. Gase has also interviewed with Jaguars, but remains on market.

So are we a 3-4 team now?

Probably headed toward that. Likely will be a hybrid as we transition.

Yep. A hybrid most likely. I imagine we'll play a 4-3 whenever Allen is on the field and a 3-4 when he's taking a break.

Kinda amusing how much Rotoworld blames Trestman's failure on Cutler:

Smarting from the loss of Gary Kubiak, the Ravens have found the best possible replacement. Trestman proved overmatched as the Bears' head coach, but has worked magic time and again with quarterbacks, from Rich Gannon to Josh McCown. Trestman fell on his face with a stubborn Jay Cutler, but is inheriting a much more "coachable" quarterback in Joe Flacco. Trestman's arrival should ensure Flacco's 2014 rebound from a rocky 2013 is not a one-year phenomenon.

O....M.....G....Trestman is the OC of the Ravens....HAHAHAHA

Never a bad idea to hire former head coaches as your coordinators. I'd guess Trestman does fine in this role. His problem was a complete lack of leadership skills.

But...he also was a poor playcaller. Trestman was a failure in multiple areas.

Regarding scheme, Fangio does have 4-3 experience and there's elements of the 4-3 even in his 3 down sets. I really think Pace is just going to get them the best players possible and let Fangio and Fix figure out the pieces.

Right....Marinelli was a terrible Head Coach (though to his credit the talent on his teams stunk) and has been a pretty good DC since then. Trestman has some semblence of an offensive track record. Even with the Bears his first season the offense was pretty damn good. I think he lost the team and allowed the veterans to run wild with the Bears. That won't happen under John Harbaugh.

I'm super excited about the Fangio hire.

I wish there was a way Gregory could fall to the Bears.
