It's hard to go down this road too much and not seem like a total homer, but at the same time, you're getting one year of Zimmermann and he's making 16.5 million.

I agree, I just have to think that's what Nats would want considering they're a contending team and they have a middle infield need.

 

It is paradoxical though, because contending teams aren't in the business of trading away Jordan Zimmermanns.

 

Zimmermann + Span would be really interesting. Also, I wonder how high they are on Valbuena?

Wow, I love Zimmermann but it seems weird to pull a trigger on a trade this early in the offseason. Maybe it's an offer too good to pass up? What are the odds we could also pry Span away?

This is interesting. He's better than Lester and Hamels, but may cost less than Hamels in a trade because he only has 1 year left, but I don't want to trade great prospects for a year of anyone. And he would get a bigger extension than Lester.

i do have a hard time thinking they would trade for zimmerman without thinking they had a legit chance of extending him past this year. it's not like theo/jed are playing for just this year.

 

Importantly, per Wittenmyer, Chicago would want to be able to ink Zimmermann to an extension in order to pull the trigger. The Relativity Baseball client reportedly rejected a five-year, $85MM contract proposal from the Nats last year, and his value has only risen as he is one year closer to free agency after a stellar 2015.

I'm not sure he's wrong. Castro is locked up cheaply for a looong time. Zimmermann has one modestly cheap year left.
