Anyway, been told nothing going on with Nats and I don't believe there is so back to chasing R. Martin. Now that's for real

I asked if Steamer was any good because of stuff like Zimmerman having a 2.9 WAR projection for next year coming off a 5.2, and not having a number that low in any of his 4 full seasons.

Am I missing something?

On a per IP basis, that projection looks to be pretty similar to his 2012 and 2013, if a bit pessimistic. As to why it's only projecting 180 IP, I dunno, maybe his 2010 is still held against him.

It's got him 1 win per 62.8 innings.

'14 - 38.4

'13 - 59.3

'12 - 57.5

Seems silly.

The projection will include the risk that he has TJS and misses a significant portion of the season or has a smaller injury. That cuts a significant % of his IPs off.

As for the rate stats decreasing, I don't know what that will be due to. Regression to the mean? Age? Seems very harsh, especially considering how great his FIP was. It's not like he massively over-achieved last year.

this is what keith law said about masterson:

35Justin Masterson

AGE: 29DOB: 3/22/1985HT: 6-6WT: 250POS: RHP

W-L 7-9ERA 5.88WHIP 1.63SO 116BB 69WAR -1.6

Masterson may be signed to be some team's starter, a role he has succeeded at in the past. But his history and skill set both point to a superior future in the bullpen. Lefties get such a good look at the ball with his near-sidearm slot, from which it's very difficult to turn over a changeup, that they've posted a .287/.367/.427 slash line against him in his career, including a .320/.408/.502 in his dismal 2014 campaign. Against righties, however, he'll be devastating, giving up so little power -- right-handed batters have slugged .301 against him in his career -- that he can be allowed to face the occasional lefty and try to overpower him. He also provides long-relief potential, something the Giants and manager Bruce Bochy used to their advantage in the postseason.

If he'll take $5 million a year and agree to work in relief, he's good value, but if he wants starter money and a rotation job, I'm out.

seems reasonable. if he's wiling to contend for a starting job but pitch regularly in relief if he misses out on a starter job, then he's a good target.

After reading that, I kinda want a 7 man rotation of Arrieta/Zimmermann/Hendricks with Wada/Masterson and Doubront/Turner (or similar L/R pairing) piggy-backing the 4/5 spots.

alcantara and castro for zimmerman and harper.

And with that, I have departed the realm of possibility...

You could add Baez and more to that package and I'd still be cool with it.

And the Nats still wouldn't

Nah, I think I was thinking about my reaction to you only saying "probably" here viewtopic.php?p=2919074#p2919074 in May of last year.

I could've sworn there was actually a no at some point, though.

Not that Harper wasn't a tad underwhelming in 2014.

That was March. That exchange makes me sad because I thought Castro would take a leap in '13 after having a full year of competent instruction. Instead he laid a giant steaming turd.

Aka: [expletive] Gordon Wittenmeyer.

He's the worst.

If you're going to validate this sample size, you damn well better start worrying about Lester.
