Peterson pickup is interesting. Not an exciting player but a good depth outfielder who can play all three positions and has good on base skills.

Also, apparently everyone decided to make moves today.

Pirates signed 1B/OF Corey Hart to a one-year contract.

Jack Curry of YES Network reports that the Yankees and Marlins are on the verge of a deal that would send Nathan Eovaldi to New York and Martin Prado to Miami.

The Miami Herald's Barry Jackson says that the trade would also include Garrett Jones going to New York and David Phelps going to Miami, and the New York Post's Joel Sherman hears that the Yankees will receive pitching prospect Domingo German.

Really like that trade for the Yankees.

I wonder why we picked up Lavarnway NOW, when we passed on him a few weeks ago?

Personally, if Ross were to be brought in as Lester's caddy-fine. But I doubt we're keeping 3 C, therefore if Montero gets hurt, a ton of Ross would flat out suck. Not to mention, I have doubts as to what Castillo would bring back that helps the team as much as he does currently.

What are we going to do if San Diego or Boston dumps another catcher?

What's Ross going to do? If I'm him, I'm signing somewhere soon, because he could get left out of this musical chairs [expletive] going on now.

I just dont' believe whatever Castillo possibly nets the Cubs makes up for the downgrade the Catching duo takes going from Montero/Castillo to Montero/Ross. I'm hoping Theo is smart enough not to downgrade the team for no real reason.

But what if he had a reason?

"decent against LHP" is like the ultimate admission that a guy sucks. That's the bare minimum for even being considered for an MLB job. "If you place him only in favorable matchups that are quite the minority, he's decent."

I mean, if you're convinced Castillo is going to give everyone framing cancer or something and he has to go, Ross is fine. For a backup catcher he's going to provide pretty good value, especially combined with a LH starter. The problem is 1) if he's going to be Lester's caddy that mitigates the value he can provide with a platoon split 2) Castillo is a better value for that role and 3) I'm extremely skeptical that trading Castillo is going to lead to a real upgrade. Unless Castillo suddenly becomes a centerpiece of a CarGo trade or something, there's so many teams with Castillo-caliber catching options that it's difficult to make trading Castillo + signing Ross a net positive.

WEEI.com's Rob Bradford reports that Craig Breslow will make a decision to sign with either the Red Sox or Cubs.

I haven't been following Craig Breslow news that closely, but what the [expletive] happened to him last season?

Just age? Injury?

This is an offseason of dizzying highs and confounding lows.

i hate to see who we'd be targeting this offseason if we didn't get lester to "speed up the process"

Holy [expletive], this. I'm assuming Baez playing winter ball means they're actually beating him regularly in front of the other prospects as a warning.

Talk about let down, why are we signing all of the washed up red sox Theo worked with years ago.

Aside from Lester, there arent many players from the "Theo" era, that seem very attractive on our team.

Whats with the catcher that couldnt hit a 12" softball?

Cubs win the Craig Breslow sweepstakes by him signing a 1-year, $2 million deal with the Red Sox.

[expletive] yeah

i tend to give this FO the benefit of the doubt (like with the ross thing) because they aren't idiots but i saw literally nothing remotely redeeming about this possible move
