4/50 for Headley. I thought he'd get more than that.

Damn...would have liked him at that cost. I hope the FO strongly believes Bryant can hold down 3B for a few years.

I asked it a few pages ago (or in another thread) but was Bryant's Best Defensive 3B in the PCL award based on legitimate defense or a Rafael Palmiero gold glove type situation? Or were there just no good defensive 3B in that league and Bryant, by chance, happened to be the best of the bunch?

At that cost, the FO must be pretty certain they have the long term answer for 3B already in the upper minors. Whether that's Bryant or Russell, I don't know.

I don't know enough about the rest of the league to answer your question, but I generally disregard most of these types of "voted" awards because they too often just go to the biggest name eligible (i.e. Jeter's GG awards)

His bat is in decline, and almost all of his assumed value comes from his defense. The prices being paid this offseason -- by sophisticated front offices with access to significantly more and better data than anyone here (or at FanGraphs) -- seem to evince some skepticism about the value of defense (at least to the extent valued by FanGraph's WAR calculations).

There is no way that one can look at FanGraphs WAR numbers and come to Sandoval 5/$95 MM and Headley 4/$50 MM. But that's what the market of 30 sophisticated front offices (some better than others, obviously), with at least two really good front offices (Red Sox, Giants) valuing Sandoval at 5/$95 MM.

At a minimum, it's interesting.

Jed Lowrie goes to Houston for 3/23

Today has been a good day for Valbuena's trade value.

I still think he holds more value to us keeping him than whatever he would bring back in a trade.

Agreed. I think he's a good candidate to get traded at the deadline if they need to throw in a major league piece to get a deal done. With Bryant ready and Russell no far behind, he'll get very little PT assuming they both pan out.

So much for Brett Anderson, the Dodgers just locked him up for 1/$10m

The Los Angeles Dodgers have agreed to a one-year, $10 million deal with left-hander Brett Anderson, with $4m in possible incentives.

So the Dodgers will have a rotation of

Kershaw FIP:1.81 xFIP:2.08

Greinke FIP:2.97 xFIP:2.72

Ryu FIP:2.62 xFIP:3.03

McCarthy FIP:3.55 xFIP:2.87

Anderson FIP:2.99 xFIP:3.55

If by some miracle they all stay healthy, that's an absolutely ridiculous rotation.

I thought he would get 10-12.

Big market franchises should have available cash on hand to take a 1 year flier on a legit TOR talent en lieu of handing out $150-180 million to Lester or Scherzer.

@CSNMooney #Cubs trying to add an OF but it won't be Colby Rasmus. They might be done with rotation after Lester deal but could use a veteran reliever.

The 'veteran reliever' bit continues to confuse me. I guess if they got a LHRP I wouldn't be upset, but they just let a pretty decent veteran LHRP walk away. Rondon, Strop, Ramirez, Grimm is a terrific stable of RH relievers, and you've got Rivero, maybe Turner, maybe Straily, maybe even Jaxon to add to it. At a certain point the roster flexibility of not being chained to a guy if he's unexpectedly terrible(a la Blake Parker's 2014) is more important than the depth.

On the outfielder front, I really hope that Gerardo Parra's name comes up again. He's only a 1 year fix, but he's pretty much the embodiment of the team's OF need right now. Wonder if the Brewers are after MLB talent(in which case, end of rotation depth comes in handy), or if they're after something similar to what the Cubs gave up for Montero.

That doesn't really coincide with Jed basically saying we're at the midway point of what we're trying to do this offseason. But it does basically say we're capped out payroll-wise, unless the OF is an Upton type and not a Gomes or Morse.

Wouldn't mind Josh Johnson or Brandon Morrow in the reclamation/flier sweepstakes.

Or Kris Medlen.
