We're 1 of a handful of teams "pursuing" David Ross according to Rosenthal. Unless he's super friends with Lester and signing him would be a deal sealer to lock up Lester, I hope we stay very far away.

Unless there's a move that's made where Castillo is the backup next year, Ross would be a very good addition. Backup catchers, as a rule, are terrible, so getting a strong receiver like Ross who at least in the past has shown some ability to not embarrass himself at the plate is basically all you can hope for.

You mean lights out reliever, John Baker? I highly doubt that.

FWIW, this was posted on Rotoworld:

Chase Headley has a four-year offer on the table worth around $65 million, per Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports.

Is it a coincidence that the Marlins were just floated as a possible darkhorse by CBS Sports' Jon Heyman? Miami appears motivated to make some serious upgrades this winter after locking up Giancarlo Stanton to a record 13-year, $325 million contract, and Headley would be capable of providing a boost both offensively and defensively. He could take over at third base, with Casey McGehee shifting to third. The Giants, Yankees, and Indians are also thought to have interest in Headley.

But no mention of the Cubs. Not sure why the hell that person thinks it's the Cubs. Unless he saw CBS and thought it was a typo. Also nice job, Rotoworld:

I don't get it. Even if there was a trade happening it still wouldn't make sense. The trade would have to be massive enough to lose 2 of Bryant/Russell/Castro/Baez for Headley to make any sense.

That would certainly shore up that 3rd base defense.

Or trade Baez for pitching and shift Bryant to LF. Rizzo/Russell/Castro/Headley in the IF, Soler/Alcantara/Bryant in the OF.

isnt headley actually terrible garbage and bad

7.2, 3.6, 4.4 win player last 3 years in order

Luis Valbuena has pretty much matched his production if not exceeded it over the last couple of years.

8.0 fWAR to 4.7 over the last two seasons, which is the most Valbuena-favorable endpoint you could pick. Plus Valbuena is the best 2b we currently have.
