They could have included Shaw's header in that video.

that was featured prominently in the hockey night in canada all playoff recap

Yep, that was great...the ref saying he'd never seen that before...hilarious.

Yeah, who was he talking to, Sharp? I thought Sharpie said "that was pretty awesome" or something like that.

I think American fans also really hate Russian players for the most part. I think you'd see a lot more hate if Hossa was the biggest star on the team.

Just making sure you know he's not Russian, right?

Yeah, I know. That comment was actually meant for Malkin, who I thought I wrote in my first sentence along with Crosby. But basically, I meant that stupid American fans hate any non-North American/Western European players.

In summary, that post was a total fail.

Given the context of him mentioning Crosby and why people can dislike him first, I think he's talking about teams led by russians like Ovechkin.

Yes this. But goony is right to call me out as I was extremely unclear.

ITT: Salty TB fans try to call Chicago fans "bandwagoners" while a few smarter TB fans try to explain why this is stupid.

This is something I wrote awhile to explain why the fan base bottomed out more than "they sucked". Id post it there but I'm lazy

To defend the fan base. Pretend you are a Yankees fan. Pretend Steinbrenner took all home games off of TV. Pretend that over the course of several years, they destroyed the relationship with every one of the team’s stars, and then when it came time to resign them, traded them for 80 cents on the dollar. Then those guys contracts expired and they were traded for 80 center on the dollar. Then pretend that the Yankees alienated guys like Rivera, Jeter, Posada, Yogi Berra, pretty much every former legend that you grew up watching or hearing that was a source of pride for the organization to the point where they did not want to be associated with the team in any capacity. Pretend that Michael Kay was kicked to the curb when he offered light criticism of how the team was run, and was so loyal to New York that he took a job with the Brooklyn Cyclones. Then pretend that despite all this season ticket prices skyrocketed. Pretend that the payroll dropped every year, and that Steinbrenner showed no sign of changing with the times, stubbornly insisting this was the way to run a baseball team even though every other team ran things differently with better results. Pretend that you had to actually hope that a person dies because you wanted to see your favorite team have a shred of dignity, you weren’t even hoping to contend, you just wanted something to be proud of rooting for. Pretend that you loved baseball so much but couldn’t stand to support the Yankees, so you bought seaseon tickets to the Cyclones just so you could root for a baseball team, all while keeping an eye on your real love from afar.

Eh- whatever every fan base deals with bandwagoners and sports aren't a competition of one fan base vs the other fan base. No purity points.

as a matter of fact I was in wrigleyville for a bulls championship and I remember it got a bit crazy. There's a ton of sports bars in close proximity to a sporting venue and people are used to getting wasted and watching sports there.

yeah. i totally get why it makes sense. i just wasn't sure when it all started. all i remember of those 90s celebrations was the one year (i think 92) it got really out of hand with cars on fire and stuff.

No it makes Crawford haters like you look real stupid after he pitches a shutout in a cup clinching game.

that was as much of a team shutout as you could get.

also, as has been repeated a million times but dunces like you can't figure out. It's not hating Crawford it's hating his contract.

The skaters won the cup again and they need cap space for more skaters if they want to win another.

So what is the going rate for a solid/above average goalie these days? Hey, remember when we signed Marty Turco after Niemi left because this team could win with any piece of [expletive] goalie? How'd that work? We have a great player in net at a reasonable rate. If that means we have to continue to develop the bottom 6 players on this roster consistently, then so be it.

You're the dunce. You still have refused to give any credit for Crawford playing nearly six games in this series without being up/down by more than 1 goal. It was high pressure the entire series. He held strong. Just like he did against Anaheim. Just like he did against Minnesota. Yes, he struggled against Nashville.

What the hell is wrong with you? Some people will just never be satisfied and can't enjoy watching a dynasty team for the past six seasons and there's little reason to believe they don't have the ability to win championships for the duration of Toews and Kane's contracts.

I said I didn't have any interest in talking about the cap crunch needs and didn't do any of it until jerks like you and that other guy went around insulting me for not blowing Crawford.

I had a great time enjoying watching this team, which began winning before Crawford did anything, and have been incredibly satisfied with what they have done. I don't have a great time dealing with jerks like you being jerky but that is why I said I didn't want to talk about the obvious cap crunch moves that will have to be made.

I don't remember 2010 being as crazy by Wrigley but maybe the Cubs were on the road then? So not as many people in the neighborhood. In the 90's I remember it being crazy for the Bulls at least in the first championship years but in other neighborhoods of the city.

My eldest happens to be in Chicago this week and he joined in the fun last night.

This may have been me and my daughter last night:

Mine is too young to stay up for that but when I woke her up this morning I told her our hockey team won the stanley cup and she had a huge smile on her face.

Tampa coach Jon Cooper went out of his way in his postgame news conference to not talk about injuries and let Chicago have their moment.

Actually, I thought Cooper went out of his way to point out that health determined the winner.

One of my favorite parts was seeing the "hits" stat with Tampa leading by a huge margin while well on their way to losing. The Blackhawks are constantly considered to not be physical enough which is just such dumb thinking when they have won so much because of their talent, and not stupid gooning.

You made a terrible comparison.

Elite Goalies and Elite QBs are a bad comparison. Backup Goalies and Backup QBs are a decent comparison, in that they are more likely to lose you a game than win you one.

I agree with goony on this. any way you slice it, there isn't a lot of variance between a really good goalie and a really bad goalie. that's what this is all about. whereas a bad backup quarterback will come in and make a mess all over the field, a bad backup goalie will come in and perform reasonably similar to the starter.

Brandon Darling won 2 games as a starter in the playoffs, Caleb Hanie is bad at everything and ruined a season in a few games.

Time for some Blackhawks rain boots.

furthermore, most North American and Finnish goalies are really really technique-driven, and they all follow the same rules. Edited by Stannis
