That depends on what he has to accomplish to kick it in. If it's something like throw 180 IP in his 6th year, that could be reached without pitching at a high level.

 

Still, early buzz seems to be that it's a $15M option - so that would mitigate the downside for the club, if true. Certainly not a deal-breaker, but it would help explain why Lester would turn down 7 years from the Giants.
