We're currently sporting a 10 deep rotation.

Lester

Arrieta

Hammel

Hendricks

Wood

Jaxon / Wada / Doubront / Turner / Straily

Do we still have to pretend like those last 3 are worth anybody's time now that we have Lester?

Well, if "we" refers to the Cubs, then yes, we want to pretend that so that some other team will want to trade for them. If you mean us, then screw it.

Passan posted that article within a few minutes of Rosenthal breaking the news. Passan knew prior to it breaking. My guess is Lester gave him the interview BEFORE he told the Red Sox while making Passan keep his lips sealed to get the story.

Don't make me go find all your Arrieta quotes from last spring.

I hope it's not too late to trade him for Lew Ford

I still have my doubts that Hendricks and his 87 MPH FB and 5 k/9 is nothing more than a poor mans Carlos Villanueva and not a #4 starter on a team trying to win. Really would like to see us add McCarthy yet at minimum.

Asked about what it's like to be on this side of a big deal, Joe Maddon grins and says, "Different." #Cubs

Posted (edited)

If my non-Cubs friends were still up at this time, I would do this since they were all saying there's no chance Lester would go to the Cubs because they suck...

given how horrendous jaxon has been, i don't think he's worth anybody's time either. they're clearly treating 2015 as "hey let's go for it," and having a guy with a 5+ ERA doesn't really mesh with that. i think it's lester, arrieta, hammel, probably hendricks as long as he isn't horrific in spring training, then a royal rumble for the 5th spot with wada, turner, straily and maybe wood having an honest chance at it, assuming that wood is still around. i suspect they'll do a salary dump with jaxon for some marginal prospect, and i don't see doubront as having much of a chance - see him more as a bullpen arm.

Theo taking him from Boston.....Just great. Nothing beats that.

Lucchino tears are a very underrated part of this whole ordeal.
