I can possibly see a call-up in September but Baez coming up may win a couple of games with his bat. IMO this front office wants one more top five draft choice. Baez's bat could wreck that plan.....

You're kidding, right? RIGHT? I just refuse to believe that tanking is in the top 5 things they consider with roster moves.

Just another consideration in addition to all what had been previously mentioned in terms of service time, and blowing the extra year of control. If I get the #1 pick in next years draft as a result of keeping Javy down until next May then great. I'll take that too.

No offense meant at all, but I just HATE HATE HATE this line of thinking in general.

Plus, getting him acclimated to MLB pitching trumps any draft position in my mind.

If they care about winning next year and aren't going to make it blatantly obvious that they're holding him down for service time by calling him up in 10 days, (not to mention getting the adjustment period out of the way), that takes priority over the extra year of control.

And with the way the game is trending, any young player worth a damn is either getting a pre-free agency extension or is represented by Scott Boras. It makes sense to hold Bryant down (although it sucks), but if Baez is any good they should have him locked up well before that final year of control becomes a problem.

But I'm just not going to skip a dot by saying DFAing Barney means Javy is about to be promoted. To my eye, this was more about keeping AA on the big league club than it was about Baez.

I'm not saying it's definitely happening. It's just a small dot in a picture that was already starting to come into focus. The big dot was the position switch.

How is the position switch a big deal or sign of anything imminent? It was always going to happen and becoming comfortable with a new position takes time.

the title of this topic alone basically refutes your insane assumption

It takes barely any time at all. 2b is exactly like SS except everything is easier and sometimes you have to make the pivot on the double play. It's not something you need 2 months, and offseason and a ST to learn.

With the trade deadline less than 10 days away, it sounds like they're just using the 10 days to trade/release rule to open his roster spot. Barney is what he is. regardless of whether or not he plays the next week or so, any team with some degree of interest is very well aware, so it's not like this is going to have any effect on whatever trade value he has.

I'd bring up Javy for the Cardinals series this weekend, just so he can stare at his first homerun a little too long and begin the BFIB stream of hate.

@MDGonzales: Hoyer: Baez move to 2b "big picture"move, nothing official; alcantara could play more Cf than 2b, ABs diminished for Barney

YES please. That series would be must see TV.

It's just too bad that Yadr is on the DL and wouldn't try to start [expletive] with him.

Baez could pretty easily struggle for 500 PAs to fully adjust to MLB pitchers. It could take 1000 for all we know, if 'caring' about winning in 2015 is the top priority, Baez should be the one traded considering his floor and the other options. Sacrificing a year of team control for the difference in "Javy MLB PA 201-700" and "Javy MLB PA 1-500" is a really, really bad idea.

What in his adjustment phase at every single level leads yo to believe it will take 500 or 1,000 PAs to adjust? If getting the adjustment out of the way now leads to him hitting well right off the bat next spring so we don't start out losing 2 out of every 3 games like the start of this year and stay in contention because of it, yeah, it's completely worth it.

Wait to hear what Len and JD say at the start of the game. If Len mentions Baez in even the slightest, it might be a tea leaf.

Len has been mentioning Baez a lot in radio interviews and on TV. It almost seems like he's on a promotion tour. And he wouldn't be doing that without some sort of hint or nod from the FO. All I'm saying here is, Baez is not going to be in AAA until next May.

Who knows if it's sourced or not but Mooney definitely seems to think a Baez call-up is happening this year. I'm not sure if he has alluded to when at all.

Well, it took longer at AAA than AA didn't it? And the majors is the biggest jump of them all with pitchers most likely to exploit his weaknesses.

The last thing the front office should want to do is give off some sort of "Baez is our savior" vibe. He's already going to be putting that sort of pressure on himself because of who he is. If anything they'll want to lower expectations for fans.

Which is just another reason he may not come up until late next spring.

But man if he comes up soon... So exciting!
