The Cubs are being quite aggressive with promotions. Bryant hasn't even been a pro for a full year yet and he's got a month of AAA under his belt.

Cubs fans being bored and screaming for promotions and not getting them != Cubs being cautious

That's just silly. Bryant having less than a year of pro ball and already seeing AAA is not a particularly meaningful statement. He was the dominant college bat and he has dominated the minors from Day 1.

Why can't we just call them something ominous and awesome without including a number in the title?

or just call them by nothing but their respective names?

Now you're just talking crazy

Definitely not Day 1. Now, Day 2 is another story.

This post of mine from last year details when top 5 hitters over the last several drafts (2005-2012) have made it to the majors:

viewtopic.php?p=2964509#p2964509

The only players to make it up the year after they were drafted for more than 20 PA were Zimmerman and Zunino. The only other player to not spend at least some time in the minors two years after they drafted was Gordon.

The normal timetable for somebody like Bryant would be somewhere between a September callup this year and a June callup next year. Gordon, Longoria, and Wieters are good examples of hitters who hit very well in the minors and yet none of them were up before the end of their first full professional season.

Maybe they're just enjoying themselves and being friendly too. I think it's silly at best myself(just like the race to nickname the group of top prospects), but so is trying to assign motivation to it.

that conversation came after some unfunny post about prince fielder's body mag picture. it's weird and lame.

Yeah, Kyle, I'm sure most franchises would've let Bryant rub his dick all over Kane County for a year.

Every time I read this, I laugh a little harder.

does anyone know if any org has ever had 3 of the top 6 prospects any any of the legit lists?

it was pretty cool having a bunch of top 100's going into this year, but the top end could be way more absurd after this year.

Closest I could find -

Royals in 2011: 8. Hosmer, 9. Moustakas, 10. Myers

Rays in 2008: 2. Longoria, 10. Price, 15. McGee, 18. Davis

I saw a few instances of two on the top 5.

yeah, those systems were a couple that came to mind.

watch almora, soler, and schwarber keep raking and we end up with like 6 top 50 (alcantara graduating).

almora and soler top 25 or so (so 5 top 25). really doesn't seem all that far fetched.

I don't expect Alcantara to graduate.

abuck is the stealth MVP of this thread.

i mean, yeah, the collection of minor league talent they have is unprecedented, I suppose. but so is a huge market team literally tanking like four seasons in a row. it just makes it a little harder for me to get super duper excited about every minor league box score. granted, it's all we have at this point...

I can't wait for them to be on the Actual Team That Matters, so all of the "WOW, look at all of these guys on one team!!!" stuff when it's just the minor leagues can't help but top off at being pretty anti-climactic.

It's pretty [expletive] exciting to finally have guys destroying leagues, especially at higher levels. I can't see what is anticlimactic about that.

I get the silliness of obsessive handwringing about ordinal placement of prospects, but the fact that the Cubs have guys doing what Bryant and the others are doing is pretty freaking cool

I could do with a little less of Kyle's wet blanket schtick to be honest.

I'm seriously thinking we try this, before making any offensive additions via trade or FA that are important.

I kind of do too.

if we can sign the Cuban OF (Tomas), it allows us better to deal for Stanton or perhaps even another star-level position player without creating a replacement-level hole Edited by sneakypower

What did I do? I've been jocking these guys as hard as anyone.

I know Kyle's heart is in the right place. No one else can talk negative and coax more out of guys than him. It's proven. I truly have no idea who he's actually high on or not either, it's quite brilliant, but understandably confusing.
