This is where I've slotted in Jimenez. With no idea if its the right spot. Shot in the dark.

Me either. But I've always put him around 15 in my head (he was my 3rd vote last time). So, 16-20 range wouldn't be bad for him. But I've been convinced on Black, so he's my 16, with Jimenez and Contreras after.

I went with the unique Vitters, Hanneman and Ramirez ballot.

I've got about 8+ guys in a bunch that I could pick at random and feel equally good about.

Curious why the Tseng voters are not going with Moreno. Isn't he more highly thought of?

edit: Well, one reason might be he's not an option on the poll.

No, Moreno wasn't more highly thought of last year.

Yea, its hard to differentiate here in the mid teens. Too many choices.

Could sworn he was higher on Badler's list.

Your memory is correct, Badler had Moreno 16th and Tseng 23rd.

I'm voting Tseng ahead because I think Badler may have underestimated him. The Cubs seem really high on Tseng, they spent a lot of time and a lot of scouts on him. I think Badler had him down because his velocity dipped, but the Cubs think that was temporary.

I think the dollars maybe reflect that. Moreno got $650; Tseng $1.63. As always the Cub scouts may be wrong; but they are pretty gush on Tseng.

That and he's further along in his development than Moreno. Tseng is 19 and will start in Mesa and could see Boise. Moreno turned 17 a month ago and will very likely be in the DSL.

In terms of Badler, I wonder if his scouting isn't better on Latin guys better than Asians. Most international guys are Latin, so I assume he spends more of his time and is better networked there, and has just seen a lot more of those guys a lot more often. I'm sure he attends some other tournaments and stuff where a guy like Tseng would have pitched, but my guess is that his views on tseng are probably limited.

Tseng lost some velo at some point late in the year, if memory serves me right. He had had a very busy year and threw quite a bit. The velo came back during his Arizona stint though. The ranking reflected the loss of velo, it happened around the time the rankings came out. Tseng was very highly thought of by some, kind of seemed like a love him/hate him type......

Oops, looks like you guys were right on the rankings.

But last winter and spring, Tseng was thought of much more highly (arguably the top arm in last year's class) before, as davell alluded to, a dip in velocity dropped him a lot. Obviously getting a million more than Moreno indicates the Cubs (and other teams like Cleveland and Seattle, who were in on Tseng) thought he was a much better prospect.

Missed this too, but it wouldn't matter as Black won this one going away. My votes would've been Neil Ramirez, Alberto Cabrera, and then ... um not sure. My argument would be simple - you hope that Corey Black's projected pen ceiling (I know, Keith Law loves him) still doesn't seem much better than either Ramirez and Cabrera, and I would argue that Ramirez might have a better shot to stick as a starter (I've actually never really supported the idea that Cabrera was a starter, as dating back to when I posted on Sickels, I've always said I thought, even during his struggles, that his future was a pen arm).

I could see Black or Pineyro as my third option, and I think there's a case for Vitters. I would ponder Amaya - he's going to be, what, in his age 21 season in A+, and probably has a good chance of having offensive improvement from his performance in the MWL. I'm hesitant to vote Jimenez that high, but yeah, he'd be in the mix. Really don't know, but it doesn't matter, as this was a Black runaway.

I am admittedly a bit surprised at such a low level of interest in Neil Ramirez when we are at prospect 16. His awful AAA run with Texas 2 seasons ago wasn't that awful to think he has not shot as a starter.
