Week 15: Bears (7-6) @ Browns (4-9) Noon, FOX

Was Jay really attempting a bunch of really deep throws?

The 17 yard pass is where the bread is buttered in this offense. Jay throws that pass well, and I don't see much of a change coming.

percentage of pass attempts > 15 yards

Cutler: 21.4%

McCown: 16.8%

So a difference of 2 a game?

Not meaningful.

Agreed. It could be that Cutler just went downfield more as he does like to sling it and not the play calling. Unless someone does know that Bears did indeed call more downfield plays with Cutler.

I will say that McCown was noticeably more accurate on short, screen and dump off passes, he's better at leading them, better at giving the runner a chance to move with the ball and better at not throwing them in the dirt. That's just one aspect he's better at.

Really looking forward to seeing Cutler out there, couldn't wish for a better opponent to go against, shame it's on the road though.

Marshall demanded a ton of throws from Jay. No surprise Alshon has thrived under McCown. Anyone have % of targets from Cutler to Alshon and McCown to Alshon?

Of course he did. Gotta keep the diva happy.

Jeffrey has 127 targets this year.

Marshall has 132.

I don't have an exact breakdown by QB, but if I give the Detroit game entirely to Cutler, and the Washington game entirely to McCown, it comes out like this...

Jeffrey from Cutler

68

Jeffrey from McCown

59

Marshall from Cutler

70

Marshall from McCown

62

It's probably good the next two games are on the road.

yyyuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuup

Mostly so he can run a red zone offense without the Bears crowd making too much noise.

"Throws too much to X receiver" is an incoherent statement. The Quarterback throws to whoever is open, or the play is designed (like a pick play) to get someone specific open. The quarterback doesn't like, decide to throw it to someone for weird morality reasons.

Unless its Kellen Davis. You never throw to Kellen Davis.

I will unleash the meatball if Cutler blows on Sunday. My fantasy playoff team is having him start due to Rodgers being out.

I can't make up any more excuses for Cutler. I've defended him since 2009 and I'm grown tired of the endless excuses. He's gotta perform these next 3 games otherwise moving on to the next guy won't be so bad for me.

Actually a lot of interceptions happen because QBs have their favorites and they throw them the ball whether they are open or not. Call it weird morality reasons or trust in a certain guy or thinking you can get the receiver open, but it happens.

Boers and Bernstein said that the analytics all point to Jay starting over McCown. What analytics are in Jay's favor this year? Scoring on the road I thought is the only one. Important stat, but not the only one.

Look at the defensive rankings of the teams McCown has played against. The best DEF he's faced is ranked 14th followed by a whole lot of crap. People are looking at his immediate results and jumping to conclusions based off of those, but not looking at the entire picture and the sample size.

Really? The Browns have a legit defense. I would much rather he had come back for the Vikings or Cowboys.

What would the moral reason to throw or not to throw to a guy? I mean I could see it if your wife was Cindy Sandberg or if the guy blasphemed Kent Murcker or if he was a Kim Jong Un fan, but what else? Edited by CubinNY

The Browns defense is 23rd in the league in DVOA. 22nd against the pass and 18th against the run.
