Week 15: Bears (7-6) @ Browns (4-9) Noon, FOX

"Good" is not a strong enough word (Jay didn't say really good). It was unbelievable, one of the best quarterbacked games in Bears history. When you win offensive player of the week and one of your teammates says it was just good and you made bad throws, I sense some jealousy there. From the clip I heard on M&H, those were the only things Jay said. I don't expect Jay to laud tons of praise on Josh, but I expected more than a blah and pointing out two bad plays on a day where McCown played better than Jay ever has here.

You didn't really give an interpretation, just a restatement.

Oh, you noticed that I didn't interpret things that he didn't say into the statement, eh? That was the point. Parsing hidden meaning is a useless exercise that I won't participate in.

It really wasn't hidden at all

Not to your keen interpretive mind.

Wilson, I'm honestly curious...do you want the Bears to let Cutler go and stick with McCown next year? If so, do you view him only as a short term "bandage" option or do you think by some miracle Trestman has laid hands upon him and he's figured it all out at 34?

I want Cutler at $15-16 million or a franchise tag. Over $16 million let him walk. Just not worth it unless Jay leads the team to the NFC Champ game this year. Keep McCown as a backup since Jay is always hurt.

Saying Jay has been outplayed this year doesn't mean I don't want him next year. But he has to put up better numbers these last three games.

Having two QBs is a good problem to have. Both QBs can win Sunday. Even though I would play Jay Sunday if he can make all the throws, I'm just a little more confident with McCown. Jay isn't 100% and with this horrible Bears defense you can't turn the ball over. That has always been Jay's biggest weakness.

And yet with Cutler and his weakness the Bears were still doing very well this year despite the defense. I just don't get why people talk like the team suddenly upgraded when McCown took over.

Uh because they did in every offensive category for the time being?

Well, except for scoring (except for that last game against the worst defense in the NFL).

Now who's the meatball? You have to allow the Dallas game's stats.

Where did I say to ignore them? I'm saying to pay attention to them as what they are...really great numbers against a really bad defense. Until then McCown struggled to get much done in the red zone, and this one game means he and the coaches have suddenly figured it out instead of what it was, which was a terrible defense letting guys get open?

In a delicious cream sauce over egg noodles.

I think it's kind of idiotic to minimize what McCown has done.

He's been a good backup QB, I'm glad the Bears have him, I'm impressed with the run he's had, but I want the starter back in there because I think the starter is better in the long run. Not really "minimizing" him all that much there.

McCown's QB rating Monday against Dallas: 141.9

Cutler's 2010 and 2012 wins against Dallas: 136.7, 140.1

McCown isn't the only one who can tear up the Cowboys. Three games in a row now where we've done absolutely whatever we wanted against them offensively.

Also, Monday's performance still wasn't as impressive as Cutler's 2010 game against Philly where he threw for 4 TDs 0 INT with a 146.2 rating and none of the receiving weapons McCown had Monday night, except Earl Bennett.

Is Jay lying when he says he made some bad throws, like the two he threw right into the terrible hands of a Dallas defender?

Those were just "good" games

Oh yay! Can we pretty please have an argument over the definition of "well", "good", "great" and "game for the ages"?

Looks like Briggs is officially out Sunday but Trestman said hes optimistic that he'll play against Philly next week.

Also, Rodgers is officially out Sunday for GB

McCown's "Wonderboy" gloves prevented those 3 interceptions from being caught by Cowboys defenders. Ergo, they weren't "mistakes".

This fanbase almost doesn't deserve nice things.

He had two bad passes. You can't hold Marshall and get in a position to make an interception and then say that was a bad throw. But yeah he had two bad passes.

And his idiot play against Minnesota that cost us the game. Lets not forget that. Because that was as dumb a decision as you'll ever see. Was that not a "mistake", but a clever ploy to get Kyle Long a reception? Nor his inability to throw a TD in the red zone unless his receiver has nobody within 5 yards of him.

And yet, when Cutler has good passes bobbled by Earl Bennett or deflected on a fluke and picked off, it's his fault.

It's not Earl's fault that Jay throws too hard while McCown gently places the ball in his receivers' hands.

Maybe if Cutler would stop throwing the ball to nobody but Bennett and maybe look Alshon's way once or twice

I'm not necessarily saying that you are, I just don't like to see the other stuff talking about him as some sort of game manager when what he did was nothing short of heroic.

There was nothing heroic about the dump he took in Minnesota.

Well, it's just a bit hyperbolic to stack it up like that. The last game was great, and certain numbers he racked up are impressive, but the team still only went 2-2 and until the Dallas game had trouble scoring more than 20-21 points, due in no small part to how much he struggled in the red zone.

Just as you're saying there are people underrating what he did there are far more people vastly overrating what he did.

That was Trestman and the defense. Trestman still is one of the best play callers in the NFL, though.
