Loxas mentioned Arizona trying to pull the Pirates in by offering a SS. Maybe Owings or Gregorius for Glasnow possibly? Then Arizona send us Glasnow along with Delgado or Skaggs and Holmberg? I just refuse to get my hopes up on Bradley....

Don't see AZ giving up Gregorious. Getting my backtobanks on:

Arizona: Samardzija, Russell

Pirates: Owings, Schierholz

CUBS: Glasnow, Delgado, Holmberg, Eaton

Feels like the Dbacks are giving up too much. Pirates not enough. Maybe take out Russell, put in a Pirates RP.

Loxas doesn't know [expletive].

Why? ABTY appears to disagree anyway. I think he listed Brett, Loxas, and the CCO as his 3 favorite Cub blogs. And retweeted something making fun of Arguello.

Id rather have Giolito than [expletive] Skaggs.

I can't get behind that

Despite Skaggs' regressing stuff last season? I'm with IMB.

I'm mighty curious if all the Orioles talks implies that they backed off of the idea that Gausman was untouchable, or, more likely, that that Cubs might be really high on Eduardo Rodriguez. A Samardzija trade does make sense for the Orioles in that, they don't have that much maneuverability unless they can somehow move Johnson and/or Markakis without eating too much (doubtful, IMO ... they can probably move Johnson and get some savings, though). Thus, if they can get Samardzija, they might have the flexibility to land another bat or two.

Loxas can barely string a few words together to form a complete thought. The guy's twitter feed is littered with four-word sentence fragments of unintelligible enigmatic [expletive]. I can't remember an instance in which he actually turned out to be right about something. His tweets are consistently far too vague to provide any value.

Pitching merry go round update time.....

Good FA-Garza, Kuroda, Jimenez, Tanaka, Santana(yeah, I know it's a stretch)

Mid tier FA- Feldman, Colon, Burnett, Arroyo, Kazmir

Trade candidates- Price, Porcello(still don't see Scherzer moved) Shark, Brett Anderson, Homer Bailey?

Teams in need-Yanks for 2, Orioles, Blue Jays, Indians, Royals, Angels, Rangers, Mariners, Mets, Nats, Braves, Pirates, Rockies, Dodgers, Diamondbacks

Looks pretty good in my mind to get a very solid package for Shark, if you look at it like this. Especially if the Dodgers(or God forbid, us, win the Tanaka derby) and any team like the Astros, Marlins, White Sox, Brewers, Phillies, or A's take from the FA groups.....

Latest from Cafardo, nothing we don't already know

Trade talks for Cubs pitcher Jeff Samardzija have been going on and he could be on the move, but the Cubs’ preference would be to re-sign Samardzija and lock him in beyond 2015 and build their future around him, according to a major league source. The Cubs will continue to work on both fronts until an extension is reached or an extension proves to be improbable.

Cafardo feels like a mouthpiece for the Cubs' front office to me. So I assume that means they want to put out there that they are still willing to extend him.

Or maybe I'm reading too much into things.

Anything I hear from Cafardo or Gammons, I take as a counter from Theo on other info that's out there. Cafardo likely has a better relationship with Theo than our own beat guys. Seems that way to me anyway.

My understanding is that both Epstein and Hoyer prefer to talk to the national writers, and haven't really built much of a relationship with the local press. Jim Hendry did a much better job of having regular discussions with the beat writers.

I'm not saying either is good or bad. Just contrasting styles.

Ignoring the local hacks is good. Very good.

Other than it pisses off the local hacks who subsequently rip them and rile up the meatballs to unignoreable levels...which, at the very least, is annoying.

They're playing for the meatballs regardless of whether or not the FO is open with them.

Ignoring the local hacks is also a good idea when you are trying to duck criticism for how bad things are.

Good point. I'll bet they won't be ignoring the local hacks if/when the Cubs actually become a good team.

Oh brother.

Yeah, they're really dodging the scathing investigative journalism of Mark Gonzalez.

I can't wait until we're good so Theo can formally apologize to all the locals, for forcing them to write such stupidity that's clearly beneath them.

I'm more looking forward to backtobanks going away

Well, DD sure set the bar low.

Yeah, maybe now's a good time to do some prospects for quality major leaguers trades since very little buys you a whole lot so far this offseason.

Posted
the bar is not "set" in a trade market. the player really has little input to set his value. there's only what one side would give up and what one side would give. there exists no magical standard when discussing trades.

Not a rumor, but one of the guys over at Orioleshangout works for Baseball America and he put together a mock trade that went like this

Washington gets Chris Davis and Brian Matusz

Cubs get AJ Cole and Eduardo Rodriguez

Orioles get Samardzija+Rendon+Vogelbach+Souza

Giving up Samardzija and Vogelbach for that would be one horrific trade. A couple mid rotation arms, yay.

You didn't even have to mention Orioleshangout. It was pretty easy to see which team he's a fan of just from the trade.
