Saw a poster on PSD note that both the D'backs and Orioles have shed contracts/payroll going into the winter meetings hopefully this is good news relating to a Shark trade since both have been reported to be interested and this is them getting things in order internally for a potential trade. The two things may also have no relation to each other.

Any interest in Brett Gardner now that the Yankees have Ellsbury? Since 2010, he's only accumulated about 1.7 less WAR than Ellsbury. My guess is that the Yankees still value him pretty highly, even with Ellsbury.

I've long been a Gardner fan. Tremendous defense (won back to back Fielding Bible awards) and has good patience at the plate. The Yankees still value him as their leadoff hitter, though, and I imagine he won't come cheaply, especially since he isn't owed all that much. They said they don't intend to trade him. They do have plenty of holes (3B, pitching) that we could probably find a match, but I don't see it.

Do they have enough good/intriguing prospects that a Wood for Gardner+ could have some potential? Or even Jackson.

Gardner is one year from free agency so there's little reason for the Cubs to give up real talent for him. There's even less reason for the Yankees to trade him, even if they were to sign Choo they could try to make Gardner work in RF.

Raciel Iglesias seems like a guy we'll go hard after obviously. Especially since he won't count against the IFA budget. That said, it wouldn't surprise me to see us holding back a bit of cash in case an interesting under 23 year old Cuban hits the market this offseason. Sucks it will cost us double, but it's that type of signing we're trying to find anyway. No idea on Rogelio Armenteros, but he's an 18 year old Cuban pitcher who defected. If he's legit(again, no idea) a 3 mill bonus would cost us 6, which could slightly affect what we spend on the big club.

Jason A. Churchill ‏@ProspectInsider 7m

Just got a text from asst GM who thinks Seattle is about to make a "panic" move ...

David Cameron ‏@DCameronFG 6m

@ProspectInsider I got a similar text a few hours ago.

Jason A. Churchill ‏@ProspectInsider 6m

@DCameronFG Great. I was hoping this guy was off his rocker. Apparently not.

David Cameron ‏@DCameronFG 5m

@ProspectInsider "Damaging" was the word I was told.

Jason A. Churchill ‏@ProspectInsider 4m

@DCameronFG "a move that gets GM's fired" was a phrase I got. I may take a nap now.

Have they been mentioned at all about lying in the weeds re: Shark? It's probably a 300 mill for Cano or something, but the first instinct is to tie every rumor into something about the Cubs.

Sign Cano or trade for Matt Kemp would be my guess.

its gotta be Cano. They have been linked as the non-yankee frontrunner and supposedly are desperate to sign someone to drum up excitement.

Yep. I'd actually lean Kemp if we're talking "moves that get GMs fired".

Trade Felix for Kemp?

If they're treating it as new info, it could be Choo signing for more than the Ellsbury deal. Or Taijuan Walker traded for something not very good.

Dear God no. Please no.

Can't see Cano signing with Seattle. Why would he? It's a small market team, that's no closer to winning. I think JayZ was trying to make a splash with Cano as his first client and he has alot to learn. Still would not rule out NY.

I feel the Angels are the ones that have to do big things(like pitching) this off season. Would a Mike Trumbo be available? How about a Shark, Jackson package for him?

To this I repeat...God no. Please no.

It's not that small, and if they offer the most money, why wouldn't he?

Cano would sign for Seattle because they would pay him a ton of money, which is the type of "splash" agents like most. Seattle is also not a small market team.

Mark Trumbo is likely unavailable, since they no longer have a logjam in the OF with Bourjos gone. Trading Shark and Jackson for Trumbo would probably set the Cubs back multiple years.

Zduriencik on mega-deals: "You have to adapt to the market. In some cases, if you have to stretch more than you want to, you just have to."
