Personally I'd rather watch college football or basketball than their professional counterparts. Neither are flawless but the pro versions of both sports have evolved to the point where I feel like watching them is a futile exercise. Between the NFL with it's extreme parity combined w/ low # of games feeling like I'm watching an elaborate coinflip; and the NBA having a predestined outcome until May or even June depending on the year, I'd rather watch the inferior athletes play in a more fun competitive environment.

College football has an even short seasons and a very short list of predetermined champions.

The bowl system changes the stakes a bit to make it a more difficult one to one comparison, and we're crossing streams a bit sport-wise, but college football is way less pretermined than the NBA. Not only are there so many more teams that even a similar percentage of powerhouses leaves more in doubt as to who wins the title, but the shorter season adds to the stakes because those powerhouses have far less room for error than their NBA counterparts. There's barely a competitive reason to watch an NBA regular season game, while a single loss from an Alabama or an Ohio State could ruin their season. Just one person's opinion, if you love watching the NFL's parity or the athleticism of the NBA, go nuts I say.

I get NBA burnout too. First month of the season is cool, because you see how your players who are still getting better have improved, and what your rookies are capable of. Then the next 19 months of the season are completely boring. Then the playoffs are kind of cool

Liking college football but not liking NFL does not make sense to me.

Some people like recruiting better than free agency/trades. Some people like rooting for a school instead of a city. Different strokes for different folks

i'm not too keen on old men going after teenagers

The teenagers want to [expletive] anything that moves, though, so it's fine.

I love college sports, probably more than pro, but not for any concrete reasons. I just do.

And no fans are worse than Boston fans, that's a given.

Notre Dame, Alabama (heck, SEC in general), Texas, Ohio State and USC fans beg to differ with you.

And that's just football.

I like the NFL alright(quite a bit more than the NBA really), I just don't like it as much as college football.

But people who follow HS without having kids are by far the weirdest

I've gone to HS football games in the past when there wasn't anything else to do and I wasn't working. It's a big part of a small-town community.

But this year, I've crossed deeper into being a depressive weirdo and I don't think I can watch HS football without thinking about all those studies that say these kids are screwing up their brains on every play.

We had an old guy in our town who made slideshows of all the sports as just a hobby. As in nobody asked him to or wanted him to. No sport was immune from 8th grade cheerleading/track all the way up to varsity football. Dude was weird. When I was in high school he had been doing it for over 15 years.

The number of towns I've covered HS sports in on a regular basis probably goes into the triple digits, and I'd say roughly half of them had some variant of that guy.

No as cheap entertainment in a small town is one thing, but when you're reading the message boards, getting phone updates on Friday night and generally invested in some 17 year olds' game it's weird.

I am partially talking about myself to be clear, but there are seriously some grown ass, non parent adults who seriously get banned on internet message boards for HS football and I can't believe it.

So you don't enjoy watching people that are good at football.

Some people like recruiting

If you like recruiting, watch Lebron try to talk every good player in the NBA come to his team.

Recruiting is the worst.

I find it interesting that some of the people who claim to hate college athletics are very much into minor league baseball.

Meh, not really analogous. The minor league players are already playing for the organization you root for, whereas we generally have no idea where the college guys will be going once (if) they're in the pros.

College football doesn't even approach the NFL for me. Never cared much for the bowl system or the month off beforehand. And for me, Fantasy further distances the NFL from the NCAA. Under no circumstance could I ever learn to care about every NCAA game (even just FBS) like I can the NFL because of Fantasy.

All that said, I get far more amped up for March Madness than I do at any point in an NBA season, even when the Magic were in the Finals.
