It's crazy to think a year from now even after all of Bryant, Soler, Baez and Russell graduate we could still have a top 10ish system. Almora, Mckinney, Vogelbach, Zagunis, Stinett, Schwarber, Torres, Jimenenz, 1st rd pick from 15', Tseng, Pierce, CJ, Underwood or Blackburn (whichever one), and I'm sure I'm missing a few is still better than a lot of other teams potential top 10s.

@CarrieMuskat: #Cubs Hoyer says they're debating who will go to AFL. Still trying to decide who needs at-bats. Soler is being considered

@MDGonzales: Discussions on AFL have been more frequent than Sept. 1 callups. Still debating Soler, CJ Edwards in the mix for AFL.

Time to root against Iowa if we want Rivero, Soler and Vizcaino next month:

@CarrieMuskat: #Cubs Hoyer says who gets called up in Sept could depend on if @IowaCubs make playoffs

Also, Russell would be 5th in all of AA...as a 20yo SS.

Byron Buxton: .240/.313/.405, 33 K in 134 PA at A+

Addison Russell: .315/.385/.536, 32 K in 187 PA at AA

and Russell's younger

just sayin'

Russell has to be the safest thing we have to be at least above average at his position-occasional All-Star, right?

I think Bryant's K's and defense make him slightly less of a sure thing, although still pretty close to a sure thing.

agreed. Soler/Russell/Bryant. But they're all really solid.

I don't know why but I keep trying to maintain a healthy skepticism about Soler and it is not working.

Same, from a performance basis idk what he's done that you could say "this is why he's gonna fail" like Baez/Bryant with the k% issues. The only thing that you can knock him on is really health and even part of that that was a fluke injury+hamstring issues that they seem to have gotten him over and may have been more caused by not playing any baseball for 2 years then ramping it up immediately and being on a poor diet.

Right. And Soler would be up there with Addison but with positional adjustment, I think I give the nod to Russell. If his defense at SS is at least going to be solid as most seem to think now, along with contact rates, discipline, power... damn.

You guys are way underselling Bryant.

I think Bryant will have a .900+OPS next year. We just have 2 more other-worldly prospects without his K issues.

Currently, in all of baseball there are 8 guys with a .900 OPS. One more at .899.

So...I sure hope you're right.

It's just how consistent he's been, without needing any time to adjust to new levels. In his year and a half he's been through every level (except his 2 games in rookie league and skipping A) with a 1.100 OPS. It's bonkers.

The problem with Bryant is certainly his contact issues. But, that doesn't mean he isn't safe. That power will play at any level. Guys just don't have that kind of power. He is a safe bet to hit a lot of homers and take a fair amount of walks. There is plenty of value in doing just that, even if his contact issues remain a huge problem.

Russell is safe in the idea that he is a decent bet to end up near a facsimile of what we think he is. Bryant is a poor bet to reach his ceiling because of his contact issues, but his ceiling is like, multi-year MVP. There is a much larger range of what Bryant could be, but that doesn't mean that he isn't safe. His floor is still pretty high, I think.

People are taking "I think Russell and Soler are slightly safer than Bryant" as "I think there is a big risk that Bryant is a bust".
