Top 20 with write ups. Good approach for Soler, maybe Callis just forgot? No clue. Only real surprise for me is Mejia at 20, which is encouraging obviously.

Not that I know anything about anything, but Soler always seems too low on these lists to me.

I'm with you but I'm in the minority in rating Soler ahead of Baez and Alcantara, not just Almora.

Soler was too low, his scouting grades are off. And neither Vogelbach nor Candelario should be in the top 20 any more. I'd replace them with guys like Sands and Zagunis. These lists are kinda maybe not bad at the top and then "here's a bunch of guys we heard of and kinda like".

I still have Vogelbach in my top 20 (lower than MLB.com does) and maybe Candelario sneaks in too. Neither Sands or Zagunis are sniffing my top 20.

Positional advantage and his improvement during the year still has Baez above Soler for me. But Soler is firmly in the top tier along with Bryant, Baez and Russell, with everyone else at least a notch below.

That's serious SNTS right there. Vogelbach is definitely in mine. Candelario is iffy, but the only new draftee I'd have over him is Schwarber. Underwood is definitely in my top 20. Personally, I'm not ranking Alcantara or Hendricks anymore as their eligibility is closing fast. The guys under consideration for the 2 spots vacated by them for me are Candelario, Rivero, Villanueva, Clifton, Hannemann, and Marco Hernandez. Group is hard to differentiate for me.

Also, I'm totally perturbed by people who rank Almora in the top 40.

What do you mean?

Almora is not deserving of that ranking.

I still have confidence that Vogelbach's numbers will blow up one of these days.

We really need the NL to add the DH.

wOBA .368 this year. Still pretty good peripherals.

considering that DH is traditionally one of the highest-paid positions in baseball and the cubs are owned by #ptr, that may not be a great idea for the cubs, long-term.

It's getting more and more obvious that these lists are not researched very well and they just start grasping at any plausible excuse when a mistake is pointed out. I definitely agree with the people who say Soler will magic rocket up the rankings in the offseason. Soler will keep doing what he's doing, but the prospect guys will pretend he turned things around in August.

Also, their Cubs top 20 has some very terrible choices. Almora ahead of Soler, Vogelbach and Candelario ahead Tseng, and Blackburn making the list over Underwood is one that really shows that not much research went into this. I don't know how anyone paying attention this year could have Blackburn over Underwood, he has better stuff, much higher upside, and better numbers.

EDIT: Upon further inspection, Blackburn and Underwood's numbers are much closer than I thought, with many stats favoring Blackburn. However, in the tradition of prospect rankers, I stick with my initial assessment. My sources tell me that Blackburn doesn't hustle.

it's just that the things they say about him are so far off that it's like WTF?

swing and miss concerns? approach issues?

If he comes up and hits we'll just hear about how "now that his effort matches his tools, he's reaching his potential" or some other caveat these losers use to cover their ass

they'll never let go of their qualifiers, ever

"he's having the best season since barry bonds, but health/lack of effort will always be a concern"

There's 30 organizations out there. Anyone who writes about the minors as a whole can spend at most 3% of the time on each one that we hardcore fans spend on our team.

Of course most of us know the Cubs better than Parks, Callis, whomever do.

At this point, I go......

1. McDaniel

2. Parks

3. Law

4. Badler

5. Callis

6. Crawford

7. Cooper

8. Manuel

9. Piliere(for past work and hopeful he jumps back in from PG)

10. Rubio(not a slight, I like him)

Mayo, Sickels, and Hulet are so awful they're not worth reading.

ranking the people who rank prospects? That's unpossible.

Their schtick is tiring, they're definitely annoying. But at least they provide legit scouting observations. I just look past the other stuff.
