Emery loves to draft guys who haven't actually played much college football.

Except that doesn't apply to anyone other than Kyle Long in this draft. Every other pick has started at least 25 games for his college team.

Yeah, only the measly first rounder And the guy who was kicked off this season and the guy last year who missed the entire season.

I'm with you on Long but Wilson left the team because Leach was a piece of [expletive]. All the talent is there.

Wilson also didn't miss the whole season.

Don't know how to feel about Walter either Raisen.

All in all I'd give this draft a B to B-. Hopefully our O-line can take a big step forward and be solid this year. Webb and Carimi now have to produce or move aside.

Martellus Bennett in response to Adam Shefter

@JoeGryffindor: "@AdamSchefter: Fact of day: Mel Kiper Jr. NEVER has taken a bathroom break during any draft. Ever." Who gives a flying f**k. He's lame.

Outside of how our first pick was made(no issue with the player, just wanted a trade back, if thats who we wanted) the rest of the draft was extremely solid. Really hard to fault the rest of it. I think I'd give the entire draft a B grade, docking solely for Long at 20, instead of back from that spot.

It's hard for me to give it a solid B, because of the reach in the first round. It was a good 20-30 place reach. I'd give the Long pick a C to C- alone, and I give it the most weight since it is the most important. I wouldn't give any picks an A other than the 6th and 7th which get the least weight. Bostic's probably a B+ to B for me. And I really didn't like the double up at LB, so even though I love Greene, I can only give that pick a C.

Wish we'd taken Swope.

So did 85% of the internet. I wasn't a huge Swope fan, but acknowledged he would probably be a solid contributor. I don't think he's anywhere near 4.34 (or whatever he ran) fast. I never thought the Bears were looking for a slot WR as much as they were looking for a guy that could really stretch the field. If that guy also could play in the slot, more power to him. Swope ran the 40 in a time of a field stretcher, but that's not his calling as a player.

UDFA time: Bears get DT Brent Russell of Ga Southern. Have seen him mocked as high as 4th round. Also get WR Mark Harrison from Rutgers, who Kiper had very high. Have signed others as well, but they're the only 2 I recognize.

Michael Ford RB from Lsu. Love him. Highly recruited out of HS and average about 6 ypc. Shared the backfield with about 9 other 5 star guys and left school early. I think he's a couple years away from being a legit #2 RB.

Along with Ford, Harrison, and Russell-Jimmy Coy, QB from Xavier, PJ Lunergan, C from LSU, Tress Way, P and Jonathan Hurst, CB from Oklahoma, Zach Minter, DT from Montana State, Tunde Bakare, LB, from Kansas, and Josh Lenz, WR from Iowa State.

There are rumors that Colts/Cowboys were wanting to pick Long in the 1st so he was NOT a reach according to NFL teams/GMs/scouts/etc. I like him better than Pugh who went right before to the Giants. Long kinda reminds me of Nate Solder as that athletic player turned OL who is inexperienced/raw that has a very high ceiling except I think Solder was just strictly an OT (so he had more value than Long).

As for Swope, the reason he fell that far is because he had like 4-6 concussions in college. Dude could turn into Jahvid Best. I would be scared to draft him.

I think Emery did very well in this draft. I think 4th round was actually going to be a different player, but Greene somehow fell to them and Emery had to pull the trigger on that.

If he is half as awesome on the field as he is on twitter next year it's gonna be a fun season.

Chicago Bears

20. Kyle Long, guard, Oregon.

50. Jon Bostic, inside linebacker, Florida.

117. Khaseem Greene, outside linebacker, Rutgers.

163. Jordan Mills, tackle/guard, Louisiana Tech.

188. Cornelius Washington, defensive end, Georgia.

236. Marquess Wilson, receiver, Washington State.

Overview: I expected GM Phil Emery to stay true to his board on the draft's first day. I'm not sure he did with the Long pick -- it seemed like need-based reach on an inexperienced, boom-or-bust lineman -- but Emery went value searching on days two and three. Bostic is an athletic thumper who'll give D.J. Williams a run for his money at inside 'backer, replacing Brian Urlacher. Greene's pre-draft measurables disappointed, but he is fast to the football and NFL-ready after earning back-to-back Big East Defensive POY awards in Rutgers' pro-style system. Washington is an explosive edge pass rusher with starting-caliber tools. He was robbery toward the back end of the third day. If Wilson's head is on straight, he's capable of earning an immediate spot in Chicago's three-receiver package with Brandon Marshall in the slot and Alshon Jeffery outside.

Grade: B-

Believe it or not, the B- was one of his nicer grades. The more I read about Wilson, the more I really like that pick.

On UDFA Josh Lenz:

Josh Lenz, WR (5-11 1/4, 201) — Lenz ran the 40 in 4.37 and 4.36 seconds. He had a 38 1/2-inch vertical jump and a 10-foot-1 broad jump. He did the short shuttle in 4.20 seconds and the three-cone drill in 6.59 seconds. He is one of the few guys who ran the 60-yard shuttle in under 11 seconds (doing so in 10.88 seconds). He also had 21 strength lifts. Lenz had limited production at Iowa State, but his workout numbers make him an intriguing prospect.

Yeah, Walter mentioned Wilson was a second round talent before all the stuff went down this year. I'm very intrigued, to say the least.

watching the video of him, you can tell he has the natural football instincts of a top receiver and plays stronger than he looks and faster than he ran at the combine.

also, in defensive ends, they call it the "tilt", he's got the tilt for receivers. whatever that means.

Angelo was good in later rounds of the draft too. But you get fired for screwing up your first rounders. I hope Emery isn't 2/2.

Angelo was the GM for over a decade and kept his job by getting starters in the mid rounds. It seems that everyone but Mills from this draft could contribute immediately. I think its a very solid imprint on the roster by Emery as Mayock said.

How many GMs have had really good teams for years on end that have consistently screwed up their first rounders?
